Your donation of art supplies and notebooks has made a tremendous impact on our classroom and our students' learning experience.\r\n\r\nThanks to your contribution, students now have the materials they need to fully engage in hands-on science projects, model celestial systems, and creatively demonstrate their understanding of complex concepts. These tools have encouraged effort, improved organization, and inspired independence in their academic work.\r\n\r\nSince receiving these materials, we have seen noticeable growth in test results and a clear rise in student motivation. Students are more confident, eager to participate, and proud to showcase their learning through their interactive notebooks and science projects. What once felt like \"just another assignment\" has turned into an opportunity for creativity, exploration, and discovery.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped us create a classroom environment where students take ownership of their learning and feel excited to come to class each day. We truly appreciate your investment in their success and your belief in the power of education to spark curiosity and confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making a lasting difference in our students' lives and for supporting the future scientists, thinkers, and leaders of Granite Park Jr. High.\r\n\r\nWith gratitude,\r\nMr. Walker\r\n6th Grade Science Teacher\r\nGranite Park Jr. High","fullyFundedDate":1746590621773,"projectUrl":"project/question-explore-and-investagate-scienc/9163913/","projectTitle":"Question, Explore and Investagate Science through Interactive Notebooks","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Walker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3625390_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1531583304067","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/awsome-walker"},{"teacherId":8276665,"projectId":9326829,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom through DonorsChoose! Because of your donation, my students now have access to a full class set of headphones, which has made a huge difference in their learning. With access to a working, reliable, sturdy set of headphones, students are able to watch instructional videos at their own pace, listen to translations of lectures in their primary language, and have instructions and test questions read aloud—all of which make the classroom more inclusive and accessible for the wonderful, diverse students at Granite Park. The headphones have given them the independence and confidence to engage with material in the way that best supports their individual learning needs.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, the headphones have also created opportunities for focused study time. Students can listen to music that helps them concentrate and work quietly, creating a calmer and more productive classroom environment.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your kindness. I learned that blue and purple are the two favorite colors this year!\r\n\r\nI wish you could have witnessed this sweet experience with me! I have enough pencils to give each student another one at the semester too! \r\n\r\nThe other supplies in my \"Back to Basics\" project are also already in use. We've used the sharpies to sign on social contract and will use them through out the year to create one-pager projects and so much more! Most of our students arrived in the country during sixth grade and, as a result, missed the opportunity to engage with many classic novels during their earlier elementary years. Your gift has provided them with the chance to experience these important literary works.\r\n\r\nHoles is an engaging story that not only entertains but also teaches valuable lessons about friendship and perseverance. Hatchet offers powerful insights into inner strength and resilience during challenging times. Both novels provide meaningful themes that resonate with our students and support their personal and academic growth.\r\n\r\nEach morning, we begin our homeroom with a read-aloud, creating a shared experience that builds community and strengthens literacy skills. At the end of the year, every student will be able to take home one of these books, allowing them to continue nurturing their love of reading beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, English reading instruction is limited due to the emphasis on content acquisition. These read-aloud sessions offer a vital opportunity to model strong reading strategies in English—something many of them may not otherwise receive. While my school does have an amazing library, not a lot of the students use it. So, it is a special gift to be able to have science related books in my science class. \r\nMy students have been using these books as a supplemental resource. Every week I give a quiz or final assessment for the unit we have been working on. The time needed for these assignments varies by student. Some students need longer than others. What I have done for the students that finish early, rather than give them non-educational time, is put the books at their tables groups to read. As the students finish a book, they then write a summary for the book. If they complete the book and the summary, it can help their grade. Not only are they learning more science, but they are also working on their reading and writing skills!
