I teach students with a broad range of reading levels in a Title I classroom due to a student population that includes many English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented students, students living below the poverty line with little access to resources, and others. I hope to acquire books that my students can connect with and get excited about to grow their interest in reading and build their reading comprehension. Because my students are from more diverse backgrounds, I'd like the books in my classroom to be more relevant to them by reflecting authors and characters similar to themselves. The books I obtain will be shared with other English teachers at my school and used for reading activities such as class novel studies, small group literature circles, and "First Chapter Fridays" where students receive a preview of a different book each week that they might like to read. I've carefully chosen books that share a variety of experiences, perspectives, and lexile levels.
