We recently were mandated to use a curriculum that has digital interface to deliver instruction. Needless to say that having an online platform as the main means of instruction was a shift that was very challenging. Students had a workbook that was the print version of the lessons, but nowhere to synthesize the material. I was able to create unit packets that students could use as a roadmap to navigate through the curriculum and have a one-stop shop of notes, examples, and reflection space. These have been a life saver in our class this year. My students have a concrete note catcher that has become their individualized learning tools. This would not have been possible without your generous support.\r\n\r\n Small-group work and testing has become so much more constructive because the privacy shields have kept distractions to a minimum. When we use them during testing, I have found that cheating is practically non-existent and I can see exactly what each students knows without having to ascertain whether or not the score is valid. \r\n\r\nI use the Building Thinking Classrooms method of seating students which involves randomly matching triads of students every class period. The brightly colored cardstock has served as student name tents that are easily collected, shuffled and distributed. Such a simple tool, provided through your generosity, has allowed me to reap a big benefit. These name tents simply would not have been possible without your willingness to help fund this project.\r\n\r\nMy students are eager to learn every day, but many need that extra something to help them narrow the gaps in their learning and to maintain their interest and support their learning. Having the supplies that were funded through this Donors Choose project made a big impact and I am extremely grateful to you.","fullyFundedDate":1755735194714,"projectUrl":"project/starting-the-year-off-right/9473490/","projectTitle":"Starting the Year Off Right","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Santaniello","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp644544_orig.jpg?crop=1607,1608,x0,y21&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661720739486","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-santaniello-194"},{"teacherId":3337321,"projectId":9132494,"letterContent":"When the Cricut arrived, students were instantly intrigued. Many had heard of it but never used one before. Their eyes lit up as they watched it cut precise shapes from colorful cardstock. One student said, \"This is like math meets art—it's actually fun!\" \r\n\r\nThe hands-on aspect made abstract concepts feel tangible and exciting\r\nUsing the Cricut, they created vibrant, layered posters that visually represented each transformation. It was incredible to see math come to life through design!\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our math classroom is now a space where creativity and critical thinking thrive side by side. My students have been working diligently on their unit packets to showcase their understanding of the various topics covered.\r\n\r\nEach unit packet contains the unit contents sorted by lesson. Students work on lesson summaries, video summaries, vocabulary, misconception correction, and next steps to success problems. They summarize their learning by answering the over-arching unit essential question and prepare a review of all topics. These unit packets provide a strategic synthesis of the year's learning in a concise way. These packets will provide the backbone of our Regents review as well. Students are incredibly proud to show off what they know in this way.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your generous support. Thank you again for providing my class with the paper necessary to get those packets printed.","fullyFundedDate":1733227121612,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-thinking-classroom-one-unit-p/8966773/","projectTitle":"Building a Thinking Classroom One Unit Packet at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Santaniello","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp644544_orig.jpg?crop=1607,1608,x0,y21&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661720739486","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-santaniello-194"},{"teacherId":3281325,"projectId":8985650,"letterContent":"The impact of your donation extends far beyond just the tangible items. It has shown my students that there are people in the community who care about their well-being and success. Your kindness has fostered a positive atmosphere in the classroom and has helped to reinforce the importance of kindness, generosity, and the power of community support.\r\nThe snacks you provided have been an incredible support for my students. As you can imagine, many of our students come to class eager to learn, but sometimes hunger can make it difficult for them to concentrate and stay engaged. Having a healthy snack available has allowed them to fuel their minds, ensuring that they have the energy to focus on their studies and participate fully in classroom activities. It has also created a sense of community in the classroom as students share snacks and engage in conversations, building relationships beyond academics.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the chair you donated has brought a sense of comfort and inclusivity to our classroom. It has quickly become a favorite spot for students who need a break from the traditional classroom seating. The chair has allowed them to work in a more relaxed, comfortable environment, which has proven to be especially helpful for students who may need a little extra support to focus or feel at ease. Whether it's for reading, group work, or just a moment to regroup, the chair has become a vital part of our classroom setup.","fullyFundedDate":1736442205641,"projectUrl":"project/comfy-cozy-math/8985650/","projectTitle":"Comfy Cozy Math","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Saladino","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3281325_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1451587980375","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-saladino"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_934","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":985,"numTeachers":76,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":44,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":36.2,"schoolId":934,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Junior High School 194 William H Carr on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Junior High School 194 William H Carr","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/jhs-194-william-h-carr/934"}
