My students thoroughly enjoyed reading the novel \"Touching Spirit Bear\". They made connections with the characters and the theme(s) of this wonderful story of redemption and forgiveness. \r\nThis is the first novel that many students have read cover to cover (vs. just excerpts or short stories provided in our curriculum). We had lively discussions throughout the story and finished with a terrific Socratic Seminar that challenged their critical thinking and speaking and listening skills.\r\nThe culminating project was to create their own totems with spirit animals that represented their character traits in the past, present and traits they wish to posses in the future.\r\nThank you again for helping to provide the opportunity for my students to be enriched with excellent literature.","fullyFundedDate":1768717623042,"projectUrl":"project/help-our-readers-today-become-tomorrows/10034646/","projectTitle":"Help Our Readers Today Become Tomorrow's Thinkers and Doers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. MARTINO","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8140491"},{"teacherId":2145538,"projectId":10016481,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for bringing \"Mapping Success in Full Color\" to our classroom. In an 8th-grade History and Geography setting, the ability to visualize the world is the foundation of all learning. Before your generous gift, my students often struggled to distinguish between complex layers on black-and-white photocopies. Now, with our new color laser printer, the world has quite literally opened up to them in vivid detail.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this technology was immediate. My students were incredibly excited to see the first set of high-resolution climate and topographical maps. One student, who usually struggles with spatial awareness, remarked that they could finally \"see where the mountains actually start\" because of the clear color gradients. This technology allows me to print specialized, up-to-date resources that cater to our specific curriculum, from migration patterns to shifting political borders.\r\n\r\nBy having access to these colorful, high-quality materials, my students are moving past simple memorization and are beginning to analyze the \"why\" behind global events. They are more engaged, more confident in their map-reading skills, and more curious about the world beyond our classroom walls. While things like a broom, dustpan, and a three-hole punch may seem like basic supplies, in a 7th grade science room, they are the backbone of our \"Sanctuary.\" My students now take immense pride in their workspace; after a messy activity or lab, they no longer have to wait for me to clean up—they grab the broom and work together to reset the room for the next period. This ownership has fostered a level of responsibility and \"Order\" that was missing before.\r\n\r\nMany donors may think of technology only as tablets or computers, but in our room, a vital piece of technology is the HEPA air filtration system. This device works silently in the background to ensure my students and I are breathing clean, filtered air, which is especially important in our high-traffic desert environment. Additionally, the safety window covers are a crucial piece of safety. They allow us to instantly secure our room in a \"lockdown\" situation while maintaining privacy during daily instruction. This \"Safety\" pillar allows my students to lower their stress levels and focus entirely on the curriculum.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for the students has actually been the consistency these supplies provide. Having a reliable supply of pencils and a high-quality pencil sharpener has removed a major daily stressor, allowing us to start our lessons much faster. One particular group of students, who previously struggled with staying organized, has really taken to using the three-hole punch to keep their Unit 4 notebooks in order. Of course, the Jolly Ranchers have been a great, simple way to recognize students who are following our classroom norms and doing the right thing. Because of your generosity, my students can focus less on what they are missing and more on the science in front of them.","fullyFundedDate":1768981543378,"projectUrl":"project/safety-joy-and-order/10001937/","projectTitle":"Safety, Joy, and Order","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cascio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9617895_orig.jpg?crop=320,320,x0,y27&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746640157306","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9617895"},{"teacherId":9167362,"projectId":9987988,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support for my classroom. After a hands-on lab involving modeling how rocks form, students took ownership of their workspaces, using the wipes to ensure the lab tables were sanitized and ready for the next period. It has taught them a level of professional responsibility that goes beyond the curriculum. The air purifier has been amazing as well as it gives us a \"clear\" mind to work!\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students are preparing to dive into our Chemistry curriculum. With a clean, organized, and well-equipped room, we are moving into a series of labs focused on the phase change and chemical reactions. Each item has found an immediate purpose, enhancing creativity, confidence, and learning in ways that would not have been possible without your support.\r\nThe new iPad has been especially exciting for our Broadcast Media students. From the moment it arrived, students were eager to put it to use as a teleprompter during our daily broadcasts. Previously, students often struggled to memorize scripts or glance down at papers, which could interrupt the flow of the show and affect their confidence on camera. With the iPad now serving as a teleprompter, students are able to maintain eye contact with the camera, stay on script, and deliver announcements more smoothly. This has not only improved the overall quality of our broadcasts, but it has also helped students feel more professional and prepared. Many students have shared how much easier it is to focus on their delivery rather than worrying about forgetting lines, allowing them to enjoy the experience and grow as communicators.\r\nThe iPad has also made our broadcast process more efficient. Transitions between segments are smoother, timing is more accurate, and students are learning firsthand how technology is used in real-world media production. These skills are invaluable and directly connect classroom learning to potential future careers in broadcasting, journalism, and digital media. Having access to this technology empowers students to take pride in their work and strive for excellence every day.\r\nThe markers included in this project are already being used across the classroom and hallways to promote school spirit and creativity. Students have eagerly begun creating colorful, engaging posters for upcoming spirit weeks and school events. These posters are not only decorative but also student-designed, giving learners a sense of ownership and pride in their school community. The markers allow students to experiment with color, layout, and visual communication while working collaboratively. Watching students brainstorm ideas, sketch designs, and bring them to life has been incredibly rewarding. These materials help transform simple ideas into vibrant visuals that energize the entire school.\r\nIn our Graphic Design classes, the class set of computer mice has had a significant and immediate impact. Many students were previously limited by trackpads, which made it difficult to perform precise movements or make small adjustments to their designs. With access to individual computer mice, students have expressed how much easier it is to control their work and focus on the fine details that make designs stand out. Students frequently mention that the mice help them work more accurately and comfortably, allowing them to stay engaged for longer periods of time.\r\nThe computer mice have also improved classroom efficiency and student confidence. When students are not frustrated by their tools, they are better able to focus on creativity, problem-solving, and refining their work. This has led to higher-quality projects, stronger attention to detail, and increased pride in finished designs. Students are learning that professional-quality tools matter and that small improvements can make a big difference in the final product. These lessons extend beyond graphic design and help students develop perseverance, patience, and a growth mindset.\r\nOverall, these resources have created a more dynamic, engaging, and supportive learning environment. Students feel valued knowing that members of the community believe in their education and creativity. Your generosity has provided them with tools that not only enhance daily lessons but also inspire them to think bigger about their abilities and future possibilities. Thank you for investing in our students, supporting hands-on learning, and helping us create experiences that motivate, empower, and excite learners every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1768318136222,"projectUrl":"project/fun-in-electives-leadership-broadcas/9993170/","projectTitle":"Fun in Electives - Leadership & Broadcast","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Wright","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2938631_orig.png?crop=1544,1545,x0,y226&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699454629759","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/davidwright"},{"teacherId":3358936,"projectId":9990863,"letterContent":"Creating a calm, creative, and curious science classroom will directly support my students' ability to learn, explore, and feel safe taking academic risks.
