The suckers served as tasty treat to go along with our sales flyers to keep the promotions going even after the event ended. They love having new books to read and learn from. We read the novel as a whole class, small group and independently to ensure understanding. \r\n\tThe students use story maps, T-charts, webs, and tables to compare elements throughout the reading of each chapter. Character analysis of Kevin and Max occur while reading, students notice how they develop and change during the entire story. The themes of friendship, identity, and family legacy are found within the pages of the text. Students learn how a theme evolves through chapters. They have commented how the text to self and text world connections are very present; they can relate to Kevin and Max. \r\n\tSeveral students have asked to borrow the book so their parents could read the story also. We appreciate having the extra copies to loan to families so discussions can occur at home, as well in the classroom. I encourage the students to have a conversation about how we judge others with their families. This last project made for a wonderful end of the year treat for all of my students. We live in Las Vegas and easily get into the triple digits. \r\n\r\nWho would have every imagined that a simple Otter Pop would bring so many smiles to students faces. \r\n\r\nWe finished this year with our last tournament, Hockey during the Stanley Cup playoffs. The winning team from each period (8 periods) won their own trophies. This is something I have used for the last few years. I have students that can not afford to play on club teams and never get the chance to earn a trophy. They tell me this is their first trophy and I have some students come back years later that tell me they still have their little trophy.
