During the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic, many of the students on my special education caseload were impacted negatively by the lack of feedback for reflection and the limited number of opportunities to practice their oral reading and speaking skills. Reading fluently is critical to learning new information, thinking critically, and - most importantly - having the self-confidence to participate fully in their environment in school and in their lives in the real world. This project provides students the opportunity for frequent structured practice to improve these skills. Students will use the headsets/microphones to read and record content area material, dictate and transcribe original compositions and assignments, as well as reflect on their fluency skills and - with teacher support - chart their personal growth in these areas using their own recordings. (ELA RL.6.7; RI. 7.7)
