Thanks to your kindness, our students now have access to engaging books and educational games that make learning to read both fun and effective.\r\n\r\nWith these new resources, my students are actively practicing how to add, delete, and blend sounds to form words — foundational skills that are essential for becoming confident and successful readers. It's amazing to see their eyes light up as they play games that help them decode words or dive into stories that reinforce the phonics skills we're working on in class.\r\n\r\nThese tools have brought joy and energy into our reading lessons. I've already seen students become more motivated, enthusiastic, and independent in their learning — a direct result of having materials that make learning interactive and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nYour donation has made a real difference in our classroom. Thank you for believing in our students and for supporting their journey toward literacy. Thanks to your generous support, our second graders were not only gifted stories—they were given windows to the world, mirrors to see themselves, and doors to dream beyond limits. Each book you helped provide has become a springboard for deeper conversations, joyful discoveries, and meaningful connections.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has taken on a new spirit. During read-alouds, eyes light up and hands fly into the air, eager to share reflections or personal connections to characters like Ada Twist, Katherine Johnson, or Alma. These stories have sparked discussions about identity, resilience, fairness, science, and history—lessons that go far beyond the page. More importantly, our students see themselves represented in these narratives, and that has made all the difference. One quiet student, who rarely volunteered, proudly held up The Name Jar and said, \"This book is like me.\" In that moment, the room fell silent with understanding. That's the power of these stories.\r\n\r\nThese books are helping us nurture empathy, build confidence, and encourage critical thinking every day. Thank you for believing in our classroom. You have not just given us books—you've helped plant seeds of possibility, pride, and purpose in every child. The materials such as the scooters, the parachute, the puzzles have great impact on my students! \r\n\r\nWith the two scooters, the students have learned patience, persistence, turn taking, cooperative play and creativity by playing a game they came up with on their own. The parachute has given the children confidence and allow them to work together. I have seen so much growth since the materials arrived in September. \r\n \r\nIn the classroom, the students stay engaged, using more language and developed new favorite materials. The puzzles are one of their new favorites. The fill-It jars allow the children to count out loud, a skill they have difficulty doing as well as allow me to assess what they know. Some of the student have taken to writing and coloring, a skill they are typically most resistant to. Using the magnetic boards and the textured cards, has lessen the resistance to their non-preferred activities. \r\n\r\nMy favorite materials watching the students use are the block and magnetic people. Due to their social deficit, watching the students use their imagination and their words make me excited because it shows their personal experiences.\r\n\r\nI feel overjoyed when I hear parents say \"they too have seen the growth of their children, and are less anxious about their success due to their condition.\"\r\n \r\nI cannot thank you all enough for the opportunity and your support in helping my students become more successful in their school experience.","fullyFundedDate":1725858359358,"projectUrl":"project/gladiator-goals/8712996/","projectTitle":"Gladiator Goals","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9712702_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724805329546","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9712702"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_30851","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":675,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.0,"schoolId":30851,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Theron H & Naomi D Goynes Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Theron H & Naomi D Goynes Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/clark-county-school-district/theron-h-naomi-d-goynes-elementary-school/30851"}
