The new texts introduced skills such as close reading, annotation, character analysis, and thematic interpretation, while also encouraging students to make connections across cultures and time periods. Students learned how to compare original language with modern translation, analyze authorial choices, and support their thinking with evidence from the text.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is active and collaborative. Students read aloud, perform scenes, annotate passages, and discuss big ideas in small groups. With Macbeth: No Fear Shakespeare, students were able to confidently engage with Shakespeare's language without feeling overwhelmed. The side-by-side modern translation allowed them to focus on understanding character motivation, symbolism, and themes like ambition and moral choice rather than getting stuck on unfamiliar vocabulary.\r\n\r\nIn World Mythology, students especially enjoyed having access to a wide range of global myths. Several students gravitated toward stories connected to their own cultural backgrounds, while others discovered new traditions they had never encountered before. These books sparked thoughtful research questions, creative projects, and rich discussions about how different cultures explain human behavior and the world around them.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are not just reading texts—they are analyzing, questioning, and connecting with stories in ways that deepen their understanding and appreciation of literature.","fullyFundedDate":1745328122030,"projectUrl":"project/words-witches-and-world-myths/9250865/","projectTitle":"Words, Witches, and World Myths!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bates","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8173884_orig.jpg?crop=296,296,x0,y5&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768600695727","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8173884"},{"teacherId":8173884,"projectId":7980397,"letterContent":"Thanks to this project, my students were able to learn in a classroom environment that truly supported their academic and social-emotional needs. When the new materials arrived, students were immediately excited—especially about the bookshelves and fidget chair bands. Several students volunteered to help organize the shelves, proudly sorting books and recommending titles to classmates. That moment captured exactly what this project made possible: ownership, collaboration, and pride in our shared learning space.\r\n\r\nWe used the sticky chart paper and class set of markers during collaborative lessons where students brainstormed ideas, mapped arguments, and shared their thinking with peers. Students who are typically hesitant to participate felt more comfortable contributing when working together visually. The prong folders helped students keep their work organized across multiple steps of the assignment, and the fluorescent light covers created a noticeably calmer atmosphere, helping students stay focused and engaged—especially those sensitive to bright lighting.\r\n\r\nWith these resources in place, students are better prepared to work independently, support one another, and take responsibility for their learning. Your generosity gave donors a meaningful presence in our classroom, and your support has had a lasting impact on both our daily instruction and classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1699108820784,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-learning-spaces-provide-essen/7980397/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Learning Spaces: Provide Essential Supplies for Student Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bates","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8173884_orig.jpg?crop=296,296,x0,y5&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768600695727","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8173884"},{"teacherId":8173884,"projectId":5985408,"letterContent":"These resources enhanced student engagement, collaboration, and organization in a classroom where academic competition and teamwork motivated learning. Thirteen fifth-grade girls participated in a hands-on experience that blended creativity, problem-solving, and foundational computer science skills within an engaging Harry Potter–themed framework.\r\n\r\nThroughout the camp, students were introduced to the Command Line Interface, explored pixel art as a form of digital expression, and learned how artificial intelligence is shaping the world around them. They also experienced the design process through 3D printing and applied computational thinking by creating binary bracelets that encoded their initials. Interactive Harry Potter trivia reinforced collaboration and critical thinking while keeping the atmosphere fun and accessible.\r\n\r\nGranger Girls successfully created a welcoming, confidence-building environment where students could explore STEM concepts without intimidation. By connecting technical skills to creativity and storytelling, the camp helped demystify technology and encouraged participants to see themselves as capable problem solvers and future innovators.","fullyFundedDate":1763666413260,"projectUrl":"project/granger-girls-meet-crimson-knights/9758068/","projectTitle":"Granger Girls Meet Crimson Knights","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. O'Meara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9130670_orig.jpg?crop=1945,1945,x413,y1159&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1707320233078","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9130670"},{"teacherId":9722520,"projectId":8728310,"letterContent":"Because of your generous donation of a globe and dry-erase boards, my students now have hands-on tools that make geography and social studies concepts more concrete and engaging. Dry-erase boards support active learning by giving students a way to quickly respond to questions, practice skills, and show their thinking in real time.\r\n\r\nStudents are especially excited about being able to physically interact with the globe and use the dry-erase boards during lessons. Spinning the globe, locating countries, and tracing routes makes learning feel more real and memorable. The dry-erase boards add energy to the classroom, as students enjoy writing, drawing, and immediately sharing answers during reviews, discussions, and quick checks for understanding.\r\n\r\nThese materials have been particularly beneficial for students who learn best through movement and hands-on activities. Visual and kinesthetic learners, as well as students who may hesitate to speak up, feel more confident showing their understanding on dry-erase boards. The globe has also sparked curiosity among students who are especially interested in world events and cultures, encouraging questions, discussion, and deeper engagement with the content.","fullyFundedDate":1725325825706,"projectUrl":"project/world-history/8728310/","projectTitle":"World History","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Workman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9722520_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725151485237","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9722520"},{"teacherId":9722520,"projectId":9110270,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donation of headphones, my students are now able to engage more deeply with digital learning tools in the classroom. They can fully focus on videos, simulations, and review activities without background noise, which makes learning feel more personalized and immersive. Students especially enjoy using headphones during review games, virtual map explorations, and short documentary clips that bring historical topics to life.\r\n\r\nThese headphones have been especially impactful for students who benefit from reduced distractions or audio support. English learners, students with attention challenges, and those who prefer auditory learning have shown increased focus and confidence. Students enjoy using these tools for map labeling, station rotations, and review games, which makes learning feel more engaging and less like traditional worksheets.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially benefited from this technology, particularly those who need extra structure or prefer hands-on learning.
