This is a 6th grade STEM class where we study about flight. Often we focus on the academics with kids but what they need to to see how science works in a hands-on model building, fun activity that help them understand the skills on a deeper level. We focus on the steps necessary for an effective projects (MS-ETS1) and apply science (NGSS MS-PS2-2 Forces and interactions, Ms-PS3 Energy) in a creatively model building of rockets to explain our standards. I am requesting scissors, rulers and calculators to help the kids design and solve simple math problems. Lamination sheets will be used to protect the procedures, essential questions of learning and safety rules. The Dust buster is for clean up of the sawdust from their projects. The Battery powered air compressor and batteries are to create a pressure force to launch their projects. These tools I am requesting will assist the students in this activity, as well as easy some of the burden of hand pumping the launcher with a bike pump. The kids will also be more active in cleaning their messes with tools listed in this request.
