I can easily bring equipment outside, switch items depending on the unit, and provide parallel or choice activities with a wide variety of accessible balls, sensory tools, and fidget toys. Students are more engaged and motivated knowing activities are available for them.\r\n\r\nThe station has also improved inclusion and independence, allowing my students to participate alongside their general education peers. Quick access to calming tools like expandable balls, LCD doodle boards, and 3D pin art helps students self-regulate and stay focused. This project has created a more flexible, supportive, and fun physical education environment for every student.","fullyFundedDate":1760723627431,"projectUrl":"project/the-mobile-adapted-pe-and-sensory-statio/9736134/","projectTitle":"The Mobile Adapted PE and Sensory Station","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Murtaugh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp531341_orig.jpg?crop=1835,1836,x0,y342&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715543323984","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missmurtaugh"},{"teacherId":531341,"projectId":9736015,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students now have access to fitness steps that have become engaging and versatile tools in our physical education program. Students use the steps as a choice activity, arranging them in different configurations and walking across them like stepping stones, which helps build strength, balance, and focus in a fun and approachable way. The steps are also used during structured activities, such as standing on a step to pick up a ball and place it on a cone before moving to the next step, which challenges coordination and body control.\r\n\r\nThe fitness steps have been especially helpful during station-based lessons when standard equipment is too high or not accessible for all learners. Having these steps allows my students to participate alongside their peers with appropriate modifications, promoting inclusion and confidence. Students have also enjoyed creating their own games and obstacle courses using the steps, as well as using them as an extra skill-building option during our flag football unit. Because of your support, physical education is more accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for every student. Thank you for helping my students grow stronger, more focused, and more confident through movement.","fullyFundedDate":1759245211479,"projectUrl":"project/fitness-steps-for-strength-focus-and-f/9736015/","projectTitle":"Fitness Steps for Strength, Focus, and Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Murtaugh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp531341_orig.jpg?crop=1835,1836,x0,y342&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715543323984","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missmurtaugh"},{"teacherId":6545065,"projectId":9384632,"letterContent":"These new books open the door for students to practice close reading, empathy, and text-to-self connections. Many of the stories highlight themes of community, identity, and kindness, which give students a chance to discuss real-world issues in an age-appropriate way. We also use the texts to strengthen comprehension skills like making inferences, identifying theme, and analyzing character motivation, all while building vocabulary through rich, contemporary language.\r\n\r\nReading time is one of the most engaging parts of our day! You'll see students sitting in small groups with their books, discussing a prompt or jotting down reflections in their journals. We mix independent reading with guided discussions, turn-and-talks, and even creative responses like sketch notes or role-play scenes. The goal is for students to see reading not as a quiet, solo task, but as a living, collaborative experience.\r\n\r\nOne student who usually shies away from reading was captivated by Those Shoes—he connected deeply with the story's message about generosity and belonging. Another group of students loves Maybe Something Beautiful and has started sketching mural ideas inspired by the story's artwork. It's been incredible to watch students find parts of themselves in these books, and to see reading become something they look forward to instead of avoid.","fullyFundedDate":1750879385560,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-cozy-reading-corner-to-inspir/9384632/","projectTitle":"Building a Cozy Reading Corner to Inspire Lifelong Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kassy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6545065_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748485793146","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6545065"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_127604","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1517,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":29,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":28,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.9,"schoolId":127604,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Barry & June Gunderson Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Barry & June Gunderson Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/clark-county-school-district/barry-and-june-gunderson-middle-school/127604"}
