Popular series—especially long-running fantasy, graphic novel, and realistic fiction sagas—are frequently the primary doorway through which early adolescents develop a sustained reading habit. However, high circulation naturally leads to wear, tear, and accidental loss, leaving frustrating gaps in our sequential collections. Thanks to this funding, we were able to replace lost and worn volumes across dozens of widely read series, ensuring that students who finish book one can immediately reach for book two without losing momentum or interest.\r\n\r\nBy renewing these titles, the grant has fostered an inclusive environment where every student can reliably find stories that reflect their diverse backgrounds, identities, and interests. Middle schoolers thrive when they feel a sense of ownership over their reading journeys, and having full, undamaged series on the shelves empowers them to stick with multi-book commitments. I have several students impatiently waiting for me to get these books processed, so they can continue reading their favorite series. Ultimately, replacing these essential lost books is preventing reading drop-off, keeping our students deeply engaged, excited, and constantly returning to the library for their next favorite read.","fullyFundedDate":1782238410855,"projectUrl":"project/replacing-lost-books-to-maintain-a-diver/10334027/","projectTitle":"Replacing Lost Books to Maintain a Diverse School Library Collection","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Caster","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8129256_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x213,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1634670958921","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8129256"},{"teacherId":9701205,"projectId":10368071,"letterContent":"Small items can make a big difference. Integrating history-themed board games into my middle school social studies classroom transformed the way students engaged with historical content. Instead of simply memorizing names, dates, and events, students actively participated in making decisions, solving problems, and discussing historical scenarios with their classmates. The games created an environment where students collaborated, practiced critical thinking, and applied historical knowledge in meaningful ways. Even students who were typically hesitant to participate in traditional lessons became more involved because the game-based format made learning feel interactive, purposeful, and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nThe use of board games also strengthened students' historical thinking skills by encouraging them to analyze cause-and-effect relationships, evaluate different perspectives, and make strategic decisions based on historical evidence. Students naturally engaged in academic conversations, defended their reasoning, and learned from one another while reinforcing key vocabulary and concepts. As a result, classroom participation increased, collaboration improved, and students demonstrated greater confidence when discussing historical events and completing assessments.
