Because of you, every classroom in our school now has simple and effective tools to create a designated Calm Corner—and the impact has already been meaningful.\r\n\r\nOur students experience big emotions every day. When feelings become overwhelming, learning can feel impossible. The Calm Corner tools you helped provide give students a safe, respectful way to pause, regulate their emotions, and practice self-management strategies. Instead of escalating or shutting down, students now have options: breathing tools, sensory supports, and visual reminders that help them reset and return to learning feeling calm, focused, and ready.\r\n\r\nWhat makes this especially powerful is that these tools are available in every classroom, not just one or two. This sends a clear message to students: your well-being matters everywhere you learn. Your support didn't just fund supplies; it helped create classrooms that feel safer, more inclusive, and more supportive for all learners. \r\n\r\nFrom all of us—students, teachers, and staff—thank you for investing in both learning and well-being. While we haven't had a chance to use all the supplies yet (we're saving some for next semester!), the ones we have used have already made a big impact in helping us make science a hands-on class.\r\n One of our biggest projects this past quarter was our \"Great Paper Waterslide Challenge.\" In this project, students designed and built models of size-inclusive waterslides that could support the weight of different marbles without the marbles flying off or crashing at the end. This project required LOTS of card stock and tape, so we are especially grateful for those donations!\r\n We also used the donated supplies to build electromagnets and learn about magnetic forces. In addition, students explored forces through tug-of-war and participated in team-building activities. The snacks have also been a huge help in motivating students. Middle schoolers are definitely motivated by FOOD, and by offering snacks as incentives or prizes for games, students participate more willingly.\r\n Thank you again for your generous contribution to our classroom. Your generosity has transformed our reading workshop into the warm, welcoming space I envisioned—and my students are absolutely thriving. The moment those book boxes arrived, my reluctant readers became book browsers, carefully selecting titles that spoke to them. What makes this library so powerful is that it meets my 6th-8th graders exactly where they are. Many of my students read at 3rd-6th grade levels, and these high-interest, accessible texts allow them to build critical reading skills—fluency, comprehension strategies, vocabulary development, and stamina—without feeling overwhelmed. Series like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries use format and humor to support struggling readers, while the graphic novels about underrepresented athletes teach inference skills through visual literacy. Harry Potter and The Wild Robot offer opportunities for deeper character analysis and thematic discussions that my students are genuinely excited to have.\r\n\r\nReading workshop in our classroom is all about choice, community, and comfort. Students settle into our cozy café corner, select books that match their interests and reading levels, and read independently while I confer with individuals or work with small groups on specific skills. We celebrate book recommendations, share our favorite passages, and build a culture where reading is something you want to do, not something you have to do. Several students who previously told me \"I hate reading\" are now checking out second and third books from the same series—one student has already finished the entire Wimpy Kid collection and is recommending it to classmates. Another student, who struggles significantly with decoding, discovered the sports graphic novels and told me, \"Ms. Dazzeo, I can actually see what's happening in my head now!\" That visualization is a breakthrough reading comprehension strategy, and it happened because he finally found a book that worked for him.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students something precious: the chance to discover that reading can be joyful, that there are books for every reader, and that they belong in a community of readers.
