Teaching students how to believe in their abilities is even harder.\r\n\r\nI had come up with the idea of trying interactive notebooks for my small group Algebra I classes this year with the goal of promoting strong studying and note-taking habits in my students. With the materials provided through your generous donation, this goal is starting to take shape.\r\n\r\nThe notebooks, highlighters, glue sticks, and other note-taking tools are stored in a way that promotes easy access. The organization provided by the crates has helped us create a classroom routine of taking and putting back our materials. Because they feel prepared for the day, my students are ready to learn. \r\n\r\nFurthermore, I have made it a point to have students refer back to our notes for multiple assignments. Now they are getting into the habit of checking their notes and past work before asking for my help, which has allowed me to really hone in on the students who need extra support.\r\n\r\nAs we continue to build our proficiency in solving equations and inequalities, these strategies help students remember the processes to solve, thus building their confidence and accuracy in math. They either collaborate on the rug with their peers, work independently in a quiet corner, or sit comfortably on the cushions while using their Surf Desks to complete assignments.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments so far was watching a group of students settle into a circle with their Surf Desks to brainstorm ideas for a writing assignment. They were focused, energized, and genuinely excited to share their thinking. Their faces absolutely lit up the day they walked in and saw the new materials set up around the room. Many of them immediately asked, \"Can we use these today?\"\r\n\r\nThese resources are helping my curious, creative, and hardworking students take ownership of their learning. With the legalization of THC products here in CT, there has been an increase in \"High\" driving. This is often seen as less hazardous than drunk driving. The impact of the driving simulation will hopefully be community-wide.\r\n\r\nAs students navigate the video game sober first, they count the number of mistakes they make in a quantitative analysis.
