My students are motivated students seeking post-secondary work in the medical field. One aspect I would like to increase in my classroom is the use of practical application to their learning. Currently, students have access to text and some online simulations to perform experiments, but the technology addition of heart rate monitors and a spirometer to the classroom would allow the Anatomy and Physiology classroom to transform into a practical laboratory. We would finally have the capability to perform relevant experiments to measure heart rate before and after exercise or make hypotheses about caffeine consumption and pulse rate. Students will have the opportunity to measure parts of their lung capacity and use those results to calculate the other respiratory volumes.
The possibilities are endless when students have a practical application to their learning and can inform them of their own current health and practices. I truly need your support to bring technology to the classroom that supports student interest and inspires them to pursue careers in the medical field.
