Rather than guessing what students want to read, this project allows us to purchase the books they are actively asking for, whether they are looking for a specific title, author, genre, series, or a book that reflects their interests and experiences. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds and have diverse reading interests, so giving them a voice in collection development is essential. When students see a book they requested arrive in the library, they know their opinions matter and that the library is a space built for them. These books will also help us continue rebuilding our high school library and creating a stronger culture of reading at Oakland Tech. This creates an important opportunity to make reading more accessible and appealing across campus.\r\n\r\nStudents on our upper campus have limited access to the main library, making it especially difficult for them to browse and check out books during the school day. A satellite library brings books directly to these students rather than expecting them to navigate the distance and scheduling challenges of getting to the main library.\r\n\r\nBy placing a rotating selection of high-interest books in the upper campus, we can provide students with an engaging, screen-free option while removing a significant barrier to library access.
