The classroom set of calculators ensures that all of my students, regardless of background, are on a level playing field in the classroom. Long division by hand and looking up trig functions in a paper table are NOT skills I want my students to be spending lots of time on during tests - they should have these skills but this is the 21st century. However, we do "old school" too and the ability for each student to have a compass to do some of Euclid's original work is also important. Finally, the writing tablet is for the annotation of the daily video that I post online for them. Writing using the mouse just doesn't cut it.
