My high school students are in a humanities class in a large urban high school. They are highly motivated and interested in their place in society especially as they define their adult-selves. My class is interdisciplinary: we study the history of a region and read the literature of the region and the time period. Students are required do deep literary analysis of the literature, holistically and at linguistic level, and conduct Socratic discussion. This requires that all students use the same text.
