We've been using the new resources daily, most recently during a hands-on project where students worked in small groups to explore concepts more deeply and explain their thinking to one another. One of my favorite moments was watching students who are usually hesitant to participate light up as they used the materials to test ideas, make predictions, and proudly share their results with the class. When the materials arrived, students were immediately engaged and eager to dive in. The hands-on nature of the resources made learning feel more accessible and fun, especially for students who learn best by doing. Students will build on what they've learned by applying these materials to more complex challenges. They'll refine their ideas, test new strategies, and reflect on their results through discussion and writing. Let's start with the power pens and activities. Students with learning issues do not always like to work hard. With the power pen, they are working for extended periods of time and thinking they are having fun. The cards are self correcting, so they learn the answer if they do not already know it. I notice the feeling of accomplishment they feel.\r\n\r\nAlternative seating and the desk were the biggest ticket items. Students who need to stand up love the desk. It has actually turned into a calming corner underneath, which has been a unforeseen benefit to one particular student with anxiety. The yoga ball on wheels has a back support and the kids are not tempted to play on it like the other yoga balls. \r\n\r\nAll the supplies are so important, but I want to share what has happened with the highlighters. Kids are learning to ask for reading help by using the yellow highlighter. This not only gets them the help, but documents which words they needed help with, so I can use it like a formative assessment. The box held 6 colors. We decorated cards for a beloved teacher leaving our school. I am teaching kids to find the answer to questions in the reading and highlight it. The best thing was a grade level wide project. We used the highlighters to accommodate for students with lower reading scores across the grade level. They were all reading a social student packet about different countries. By color coding the comprehension reading and questions, 52 students, only 16 with special needs, were able to complete the assignments with less impact on the teacher. It was pretty awesome.","fullyFundedDate":1759630987369,"projectUrl":"project/help-special-learners-learn/9785798/","projectTitle":"Help Special Learners Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7446506_orig.jpg?crop=1049,1049,x0,y628&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1597891349961","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7446506"},{"teacherId":3341480,"projectId":9839300,"letterContent":"Everyone loves games but not everyone loves math.
