Each Monday I look up the birthdays that will be that week for my 4th and 5th grade students. I complete the cards, attach a cute pencil and stick on a birthday sticker. After that I either hand deliver the cards to the students, place them in the teacher's mailbox or place it on the student's desk while they are at lunch or recess. This let's them return to a suprise. I knew the students' enjoyed this recognition, but 2 things happened that solidified that. First, when a student did not get their pencil in a timely manner they brought it to my attention by asking where their pencil was. Second, I received a note thanking me for many things, but mostly for the birthday pencil. So cute!
