Through stories and discussions, students are learning how to better understand themselves and others, navigate challenges, and build stronger relationships with their peers.\r\n\r\nReading in our small groups has become a much more engaging and reflective experience. Students are eager to share their connections to their own feelings and experiences, and many of our read-alouds lead to conversations and thoughtful discussions about emotions, friendships, inclusion, and perseverance. \r\n\r\nAnother activity students especially loved was mapping all of the places Gobi visited across the United States on our classroom map. This helped students build geography skills while also deepening their understanding of the journey, perseverance, and connections featured in the story as we prepared for their Nevada Reading Week school visit.\r\n\r\nYour support has done far more than add books to our shelves — it has helped strengthen our classroom community and given students valuable tools they will carry far beyond the classroom. The colored paper, printing supplies, books, and treasure box options have made a noticeable difference in how my students interact with their learning each day. Simple changes, like color-coded materials, help students stay organized, follow directions more independently, and feel less overwhelmed with multi-step tasks. \r\n\r\nThe new books and positive behavior incentives have had an especially powerful impact on our classroom community. Students are more excited about reading and are choosing to spend more time with books that truly interest them. This has led to richer discussions, improved reading stamina, and growing confidence in reluctant readers. The behavior incentives have also strengthened our classroom culture. Students are working harder to make positive choices, encourage one another, and take pride in their growth. Instead of focusing on corrections, we are celebrating effort, kindness, and perseverance in an environment that feels supportive and responsive to their needs.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your support has helped my students feel valued. They see that people outside our classroom care about their education and believe in their potential. That message is powerful. They made their own snowman that could last all year and then they wrote about what they would do if their snowman came to life as in the books. Also, since we are in the desert we made craft stick glitter snowflakes, to reflect the change in season to winter. The craft sticks were also used to make picture frames, and several holiday related projects. My students also used the beads to count to 100 and then turned it into a necklace. Binders and dividers are being used to organize assignments and activities by subject and IEP goal, allowing students to independently track their work and follow routines with greater confidence. Filler paper, graph paper, and spiral notebooks are supporting daily writing, math practice, and progress monitoring. Scissors and Sharpies have been used for hands-on projects and to create student work displays, which has boosted pride and ownership in their learning. Headphones are giving students access to digital tools and directions without distractions, and erasable pens are encouraging them to take risks, revise their work, and build persistence without fear of making mistakes. When students first saw the materials, they were excited and eager to use them—especially the colorful supplies and interactive tools—which immediately increased participation and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nOne memorable moment has been during our after-school math tutoring program, where students use the whiteboard sleeves for math games designed to support the development of math fact fluency. They've been able to practice skills in a fun, low-pressure way, quickly correcting mistakes and building confidence as they go. I've also begun preparing binders for next year to ensure students can start strong with clear systems already in place. Moving forward, students will continue using these materials to strengthen both their academic skills and independence, as we build on current lessons and provide more opportunities for hands-on, engaging learning experiences.
