Binders and dividers are being used to organize assignments and activities by subject and IEP goal, allowing students to independently track their work and follow routines with greater confidence. Filler paper, graph paper, and spiral notebooks are supporting daily writing, math practice, and progress monitoring. Scissors and Sharpies have been used for hands-on projects and to create student work displays, which has boosted pride and ownership in their learning. Headphones are giving students access to digital tools and directions without distractions, and erasable pens are encouraging them to take risks, revise their work, and build persistence without fear of making mistakes. When students first saw the materials, they were excited and eager to use them—especially the colorful supplies and interactive tools—which immediately increased participation and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nOne memorable moment has been during our after-school math tutoring program, where students use the whiteboard sleeves for math games designed to support the development of math fact fluency. They've been able to practice skills in a fun, low-pressure way, quickly correcting mistakes and building confidence as they go. I've also begun preparing binders for next year to ensure students can start strong with clear systems already in place. Moving forward, students will continue using these materials to strengthen both their academic skills and independence, as we build on current lessons and provide more opportunities for hands-on, engaging learning experiences. These resources are helping create a classroom environment where students feel supported, capable, and proud of their progress.","fullyFundedDate":1768334041609,"projectUrl":"project/organize-to-shine-iep-learning-made-fun/10010440/","projectTitle":"Organize to Shine: IEP Learning Made Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Callis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9509376_orig.jpg?crop=3444,3444,x566,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720828714715","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9509376"},{"teacherId":6558306,"projectId":9998932,"letterContent":"Your generosity has a powerful and lasting impact on my students each day. Students were especially excited to see the new books and eagerly explored them with curiosity and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nThe incentives you help provide encourage students to set goals, stay focused, and take pride in their achievements. They are excited to work hard, knowing their effort and perseverance are recognized and celebrated. When the incentives were introduced, students showed genuine excitement and motivation, which boosted engagement and positive behavior.\r\n\r\nClassroom supplies ensure that every student is prepared and able to fully participate in lessons without barriers. In our self-contained K–2 autism classroom, we are using the new materials during small-group centers and structured play activities to support reading, math, and fine motor development. For example, students eagerly gather around the Light Table Manipulative Center to explore letters and shapes, while others practice identifying sounds and building words with the Alphabet Rockets and Alphabet Mystery Box. The Tactile Liquid Letters have been especially helpful for students who benefit from sensory input, allowing them to trace letters while strengthening early writing and letter recognition skills.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. The bright colors, hands-on features, and sensory elements instantly captured their attention. Students who sometimes hesitate to participate were motivated to join in, and many were smiling, exploring, and proudly showing their work to teachers and classmates. These resources have increased engagement and helped reduce frustration by giving students multiple ways to access the same learning concepts.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we will continue using these materials to build foundational literacy and early math skills through multisensory learning. Our next steps include expanding letter-sound practice and simple word building while incorporating collaborative activities that encourage communication and social interaction. In my 20+ years of teaching experience I have found that an organized classroom is one of the essential tools for student learning. \r\n\r\nYour gift allowed me to purchase supplies to help keep my classroom organized for myself, my students and any guest teachers. When materials are easy to find and easy to put away, more time can be given to the lesson. Your funding also gave me the ability to provide a tuner for every classroom ukulele. When we can tune instruments quickly, we can get to the lesson material faster. \r\n\r\nWhile many classrooms are almost exclusively digital, I have found that colorful manipulatives are still a great teaching tool.
