My students need access to technology on a daily basis. They use Chromebooks in the classroom to take Accelerated Reader quizzes on books they've read as well as to access other educational websites, such as Google Classroom and Xtra Math in centers. I currently have 23 students and 4 Chromebooks, making the ratio roughly 1:6.
Often times, all Chromebooks are being used and students need to wait before gaining access to the technology. By adding 4 Chromebooks to the classroom, that would bring our classroom total to 8, double what we currently have! The students will have quicker access to technology to take the quiz on their book, thus helping them get a new book in their hands that much faster!
The students are all part of a school wide reading challenge called Reading Rangers, which encourages them to read (and quiz) on as many books as possible that are within their current reading ability and interest. As they complete their current level, they get to attend a graduation party and move on to the next level. As a result, my students love to read and quiz on their book on a chromebook as much as possible. I can only hope for my students to have more access to technology in our classroom!
