My students audibly said \"we're keeping these till senior year!\" The idea is that they can use these to study for the ACT English test, but they can also use them to help improve their writing. Other students said \"I'll definitely review this before I submit my future essays!\" Already they're planning on using them well into the future, and we will continue to use them in class as we add more notes! Students in my English 1 class deserve to have new, relevant texts that they can both read independently in class, but also that we read as a class. In my class we read one novel and focus on characterization and theme. We also read one graphic novel where we focus on visual choices and their effects on readers (such as through theme, character development, and mood). \r\n\r\nFor both units, we work on close reading skills, annotation, and analysis before we work on writing skills. When we have newer, relevant texts we have new opportunities to focus on current events, or events that we can reflect on and make connections to the past. This is incredibly helpful in my teaching. \r\n\r\nThe cleaning supplied provided are always helpful and appreciated. Maintaining the classroom space to be clean, comfortable, and safe is very important to me. The classroom is often not cleaned properly or maintained unless teachers do it.
