The book, A Different Mirror for Young People: A History of Multicultural America, by Roanld Takaki will serve as an anchor in helping us guide our students in understanding the history of various ethnic groups over the history of America. Our team is designing new Thematic Units and found this text as accessible and interesting for young students. As we design our new units, we are approaching our curriculum with a Culturally Relevant Teaching lens to ensure that the content connects and impacts the lives of our students. Students will address topics ranging from identity, immigration, race, intersectionality, power, and action to overcome exclusion.
