My students are highly motivated individuals. Every Friday they enjoy reading books of their choice for 40 minutes. We do this in order to build up their reading fluency in the first quarter. In other words, I'm teaching them to read for fun! We currently have a very small class library. The books in the library are a bit dated and lack newer or more recent young adult literature.
Going into the second quarter, however, my students will take on more of a leadership role in the classroom. They would participate in literature circles and be guided and taught how to develop great discussion questions and analysis of their books.
Ideally, my students would do so with high-interest young adult literature book sets. That is, groups of 5 students would be reading the same book over the course of the quarter. Thus, I would need 5 copies for my 5 periods (25 total copies). This is one high-interest book that students are interested in and would hope to have as an option for our class library and our literature circles.
We thank you for time and consideration.
