Help students with a class set of the novel Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds. On a weekly basis, I see students tear through their independent reading books; mostly young adult books that touch on subjects connected to their lives. This book will act as a shared classroom novel in that same vein. Long Way Down deals with themes common to many of my students in their daily reality--including gun violence and its effects. With a male teenage protagonist and an accessible and engaging style, I am confident that my students will actively read and then actively discuss, debate, think and write.
