Rather than spending valuable study time figuring out what information to review or creating their own materials from scratch, students can focus on learning, reviewing, and making connections among important historical concepts.\r\n\r\nFlashcards also encourage active recall, a study strategy in which students retrieve information from memory rather than simply rereading their notes. Regularly practicing this way can help students remember important people, events, vocabulary, political ideas, and historical developments. Professionally created cards can also help ensure that students are studying accurate, relevant content aligned with the expectations of an AP European History course.\r\n\r\nFor students experiencing their first AP class, having high-quality study materials can help them develop important academic habits, including consistent review, self-assessment, organization, and time management. Students can use the flashcards for short study sessions throughout the week instead of waiting until the night before an exam to review a large amount of material.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these flashcards can help students build confidence and independence as learners. As students become more comfortable with the content and with effective study strategies, they are better prepared to tackle the reading, analysis, and critical-thinking demands of AP European History. These habits can contribute not only to success in their first AP course but also to their readiness for future advanced coursework.","fullyFundedDate":1787172662421,"projectUrl":"project/study-like-a-champ/10395588/","projectTitle":"Study Like a Champ","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gray","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7245857_orig.jpg?crop=953,953,x6,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1590461491659","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msgray-ss"},{"teacherId":7245857,"projectId":10390912,"letterContent":"Providing feminine hygiene products at school can remove a practical barrier that may otherwise interfere with a student's ability to attend class and participate fully in school. When students have reliable access to products such as pads and tampons, they can feel more comfortable, prepared, and confident throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nAccess to these essential supplies can also help students avoid missing class or staying home because they are concerned about managing their period at school. When students are able to focus on their coursework rather than worrying about whether they have the supplies they need, they are better positioned to participate in lessons, complete assignments, and stay engaged in their education.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, providing these products communicates to students that their health, dignity, and education matter. They can also use one side for a historical event and the other side to explain its **causes, effects, and historical significance**. Index cards are especially useful for reviewing AP European History content before quizzes and exams.\r\n\r\n*Pencils: Students can use pencils for taking notes, annotating primary and secondary sources, creating timelines, and completing practice questions. Because students often revise their thinking as they analyze historical evidence, pencils allow them to make changes, add details, and correct mistakes.\r\n\r\n*Highlighters: Students can highlight key information in readings and primary sources, such as important arguments, evidence, historical developments, and vocabulary. Students can also use different colors to identify causes, effects, continuity and change, and connections between historical events. This helps them identify the most important information rather than simply reading passively.\r\n\r\nTogether, these supplies encourage students to actively engage with historical content. Instead of simply memorizing facts, students can organize information, identify relationships between events, analyze evidence, and repeatedly review important concepts—all skills that support success in AP European History.","fullyFundedDate":1784606947796,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-for-ap-success/10389086/","projectTitle":"Supplies for AP Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gray","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7245857_orig.jpg?crop=953,953,x6,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1590461491659","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msgray-ss"},{"teacherId":8484814,"projectId":9857210,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our baseball program. We began by decorating the hallway, which immediately caught the attention of both students and staff. One teacher even stopped to ask about and compliment the decorations. The dragon was a favorite—I heard students saying \"wow\" the first time they saw it. Overall, the Chinese New Year decorations became a great conversation starter, and I was happy to see a strong interest in Chinese culture. One student even asked if he could have one of the decorations for his car, which I was happy to provide. Just last week, another student brought in Chinese treats to share. It was a complete joy to see how our students responded to the festive atmosphere celebrating Chinese New Year.\r\n\r\n As part of our Heritage Club celebrations, we organized activities during first and second lunch. We offered snacks, including the guava candies provided, along with two engaging activities. Students could choose between making a lantern or writing Chinese characters. Because many students were not able to finish during the first session, we repeated the event so they could complete their lanterns or characters. At the end, students received a Chinese New Year envelope.\r\n\r\n This activity was a wonderful experience. It was a joy to see students fully engaged in the activities. Students worked to figure out how to include the LED light inside their lanterns, creatively engineering different ways to turn them on and off efficiently. Some students worked in groups, while others worked independently, often making new friends along the way. It was truly a joy to immerse ourselves in Chinese culture. Many students took their lanterns home, while others chose to display them in our hallway.\r\n\r\n We are so thankful for the opportunity to bring such a fun and engaging experience to our students. The Chinese New Year decorations also allowed me to connect with students I might not have met otherwise, which has been a very positive outcome. We plan to replicate this event next year as part of our Heritage Club activities.\r\n\r\nThis was such a fun and meaningful experience!","fullyFundedDate":1767841240044,"projectUrl":"project/chinese-cultural-immersion-activities-f/9977326/","projectTitle":"Chinese Cultural Immersion: Activities for the Month of February","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ariana Quezada","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7899402_orig.png?crop=742,742,x0,y138&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1785110300472","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7899402"},{"teacherId":7899402,"projectId":9686215,"letterContent":"Andrea & Kendall Lopez,\r\n\r\n Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for supporting our classroom. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference for our students, and I am truly grateful.\r\n\r\n I teach newcomer students who have recently arrived in the United States from countries such as Cuba, Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. These students are building foundational reading and writing skills while also adjusting to a new language, school system, and culture.\r\n\r\n Because much of their school day is spent in language-heavy and grammar-based classes, my goal has been to create more engaging, meaningful, and supportive learning experiences. The headphones you provided have become one of our most valuable tools. Students use them daily to listen to recorded readings, practice pronunciation, and record their own responses. We use an online platform called Seesaw to support this work. I believe these exercises help students build confidence, improve fluency, and work at their own pace. They can replay audio as needed, which is especially important as they develop their English skills.\r\n\r\n The headphones have also helped students feel more prepared for the WIDA language assessment, I believe the only standardized test that requires students to speak into a microphone and record a response. Many students typically perform at lower levels in the speaking portion; however, I am confident that my students felt less nervous because they regularly practice recording in class.\r\n\r\n Beyond my classroom, the headphones have supported other students as well, including those in neighboring classes. They have helped reduce distractions and create a more focused learning environment. I am especially proud of how responsible and respectful students have been in sharing and caring for these resources.\r\n\r\n We are also delving into digital reading resources. Our librarian came to teach us how to use platforms like Sora and the Metropolitan Library System where students can explore digital books and audiobooks. We are using \"Read Along\" books, in which the audio follows highlighted text—features that support both comprehension and pronunciation. Our students are becoming familiar with digital reading, and I often joke with them about opening their audio books on the bus while traveling to sporting events. I tell them there is no reason to ever be bored when you have books. \r\n\r\n Your support is helping create opportunities for students who are new to our community. I often remind them that many people are rooting for them both in our school and in our community. My responsibility is to provide joyful learning experiences and give them tools to take ownership of their learning outside of the classroom and beyond their years at Capitol Hill High School.\r\n\r\n I care deeply about my students and it has been a true pleasure learning from them. Thank you for helping us provide them with meaningful, enriching, and engaging learning experiences.
