The purpose of reading Kite Runner is for students to analyze a particular point of view or cultural experience reflected in a work of literature. Students will participate in a novel study to apply concepts on fiction, literary devices and literary elements, that authors use to present his or her point of view or cultural experience. After reading this book, students will write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
Literacy is a primary focus in my classroom!
I want students to gain vocabulary skills as they engage in literature. By reading this book, the students will learn more about other cultures as well as build their reading and writing skills. This graphic novel is specifically for English Language Learner students. Having a graphic of the story in addition to the words will help the students connect the image to words. My other classes will be reading the novel; however, in order for the ELL students to succeed while reading the same book as their other classmates, they will need the added support of the graphic novel.
