Next steps are for students to begin working on a class project to build a bench. Through the snack donations students are more energized and motivated to learn as we are preparing to create a tree model using materials from students' homes. Students eagerly explored the different textures and movements, and I watched as those who often struggle to stay seated found calm focus. One student whispered, \"This helps me think better,\" while continuing to participate in our discussion. These simple tools have given my students an outlet to meet their sensory needs while staying engaged with the lesson.\r\n\r\nEqually powerful has been the addition of culturally responsive texts. During our read-alouds, students lit up when they saw characters and families that reflected their own experiences. One child proudly pointed out, \"She looks like me!\"—a moment that underscored how vital representation is in building confidence and awareness of diversity. These texts are helping my students develop cross-cultural competency, preparing them to navigate an increasingly diverse world with empathy and understanding.\r\n\r\nWe are currently working on a project about mammals, and the new resources have made this unit even richer. Students are using fidgets during research time to stay focused, and they are connecting what they learn about animal diversity to the diverse human stories in our texts. For example, while studying how different mammals adapt to their environments, students drew parallels to how people from different cultures adapt and thrive in varied settings.\r\n\r\nThe next step in our project is creating \"Mammal Fact Books,\" where each student will choose a mammal to research and present. They'll use the texts as models for how to tell stories that honor diversity, and the fidgets will continue to support their focus as they write and illustrate their books.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students tools that are small in size but enormous in impact.
