Thanks to your support, our students now have access to math manipulators, craft supplies, and social-emotional learning (SEL) tools that have truly transformed our daily environment.\r\n\r\nIn an autism support classroom, \"hands-on\" isn't just a teaching style—it's a necessity. Here is a glimpse into how your gifts are being used:\r\n\r\nMastering Math with Touch: The math manipulators have been a game-changer. For many of my students, abstract numbers can be overwhelming. Now, they are using the new tactile tools to \"see\" addition and subtraction. Those \"aha!\" moments are happening more frequently, and the frustration that usually comes with math is being replaced by confidence.\r\n\r\nCreativity and Fine Motor Skills: Our new craft supplies have turned our art corner into a favorite destination. Beyond the joy of creating, these activities are helping my students work on their fine motor skills and sensory processing in a way that feels like play rather than \"work.\"\r\n\r\nThe Heart of the Room (SEL): The social-emotional activities have provided a much-needed toolkit for our students to navigate big feelings. Whether it's using a new calming tool to self-regulate or engaging in a group activity that practices turn-taking, these resources are helping them build the social foundations they need for life.\r\n\r\nThe Best Part? The Students Love It. The day the boxes arrived felt like a holiday. Their faces lit up as we unpacked each item. One of my students, who usually struggles with transitions, now walks into the room and immediately heads for the \"New Math Center\" with a huge grin. Another student has found so much peace in the new SEL calming activities that they are spending more time engaged in lessons and less time feeling overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nYou didn't just buy \"supplies\"—you provided the building blocks for their success and a more inclusive, joyful learning environment.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for investing in their potential. The new reward items—colorful pens, pencils, and fidget toys—instantly sparked curiosity and joy among students. During our first reading challenge, the room buzzed with energy as students eagerly discussed the goals they hoped to reach to earn their first prize. It wasn't just about the items; it was about the recognition behind them. Students felt proud that their efforts and progress in reading were being celebrated in such a meaningful, personal way.\r\n\r\nSince adding these rewards, we've seen a clear boost in reading participation and enthusiasm. Students who were once hesitant readers now check out books more often, set higher goals, and even encourage their classmates to participate. One memorable moment was watching a group of sixth graders excitedly compare their reading logs after reaching their monthly goal—they were genuinely proud of themselves and immediately planned which books they'd tackle next. The incentives have turned reading into a shared experience that builds confidence and community in our library.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to continue fostering this momentum through themed reading challenges and peer-led book recommendations. The rewards have laid a strong foundation for a lasting culture of reading motivation. As my students progress, my goal is to help them move beyond extrinsic rewards and develop deeper, self-driven enjoyment for reading. It might seem insignificant, but this year especially has been a rough start for me. This is my first year teaching at Clark County School District. Tons of students don't have resources and we don't have the money (especially this year) to provide extra things for the kids. Having this project funded has meant so much. Every chance I get, I tell the kids that they got all these cool fidgets from really awesome donors. As an incentive for good behavior and work, they get rewarded \"bearbucks\" and my school has stores set up for kids to \"purchase\" things with our currency. Within the first 3 weeks of announcing the items, \r\nthere was an uptick in bearbuck rewarding because good behavior shot up. I\r\nsold out within that time frame because so many kids were buying things from my store. The kids keep asking me when I'm going to restock, they got so excited!\r\n\r\nI see them using the fidgets to help them stay focused. One of my girls chose to buy the glitter putty and I see her playing with it at times when she gets stressed. It's been really amazing to see what an impact it makes when people choose to donate. You're not just choosing to fund a project: you are choosing to bring positivity and hope for kids who may not get to always witness that. \r\n\r\nThe next steps for us are to have classroom materials that will help make our class more homey. I am lucky to have a big space where kids have a bit more room, but the walls are bare and I would love to personalize this space a lot more in the future.
