You should've seen their faces when they saw all the colorful markers and new materials — it honestly felt like Christmas morning. The phone pouches have already made a big difference in keeping everyone focused, and the markers have been used nonstop for projects and creative assignments. \r\n\r\nWe recently used them to make cell city posters and the kids were so proud of their work. It's amazing how something as simple as having the right supplies can change the energy in the room — they're more engaged, organized, and eager to show what they know. It makes me excited as their teacher to see them take a hold of their learning like that. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping bring these resources into our classroom. The moment we turned on the softer lighting, you could almost feel everyone relax — it completely changed the mood of the room. The different light settings have been perfect for creating a calm, cozy vibe during independent work or reading time, and the peace sign has become a little symbol of our classroom's \"chill zone.\"\r\n\r\nI can tell the students feel more comfortable and at ease now. Some of them even commented that it \"feels like home\" or \"like a safe space,\" which honestly means the world to me. It's amazing how something as simple as lighting can help kids feel more grounded and ready to learn. \r\n\r\nSometimes, students from last year come into the classroom to complain about how the new kids got nicer stuff. They're always joking, of course, but I always tell them that they are welcomed to come back. Sure enough, many of them come to visit me. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping make our classroom a place where students want to be. Our new sensory room is a hit with my students! They can join me in the sensory area to relax when they're agitated. We can disconnect from the other pupils and unwind. They like the tent and swing. They can relax inside the tent without being disturbed by the sounds of the school. \r\n\r\nEvery school should provide its children with access to this sensory space. Our language learners are often shy and lack confidence when it comes to expressing themselves. Many of the resources such as poster paper, colorful pens, and even our reading \"thrones\" helped encourage students to share thoughts and take risks!\r\nI wish you could have been here to see the students' smiles and hear the squeals emanating from their mouths when the packages were delivered to our classroom. It might seem insignificant, but this year especially has been a rough start for me. This is my first year teaching at Clark County School District. Tons of students don't have resources and we don't have the money (especially this year) to provide extra things for the kids. Having this project funded has meant so much. Every chance I get, I tell the kids that they got all these cool fidgets from really awesome donors. As an incentive for good behavior and work, they get rewarded \"bearbucks\" and my school has stores set up for kids to \"purchase\" things with our currency. Within the first 3 weeks of announcing the items, \r\nthere was an uptick in bearbuck rewarding because good behavior shot up. I\r\nsold out within that time frame because so many kids were buying things from my store. The kids keep asking me when I'm going to restock, they got so excited!\r\n\r\nI see them using the fidgets to help them stay focused. One of my girls chose to buy the glitter putty and I see her playing with it at times when she gets stressed. It's been really amazing to see what an impact it makes when people choose to donate. You're not just choosing to fund a project: you are choosing to bring positivity and hope for kids who may not get to always witness that. \r\n\r\nThe next steps for us are to have classroom materials that will help make our class more homey. I am lucky to have a big space where kids have a bit more room, but the walls are bare and I would love to personalize this space a lot more in the future. For now though, the end of the school year is here, so we are trying to get through it together! \r\n\r\nThank you for the impact you've made on all of us.","fullyFundedDate":1734982646530,"projectUrl":"project/rewarding-fidgets-for-kids-with-spirit/8704925/","projectTitle":"Rewarding Fidgets for Kids With Spirit","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mercado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9635979"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_49697","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":783,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":29,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":36,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":51.8,"schoolId":49697,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about B Mahlon Brown Academy International Study on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"B Mahlon Brown Academy International Study","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/clark-county-school-district/b-mahlon-brown-junior-high-school/49697"}
