These students do not get access in their home environment to books that actually interest them. There is not a major focus on reading in most of these children's homes as well. Having a variety of books available will allow students to figure out what type of literature actually interests them. Obtaining interest is the first step in becoming a better reader. If you do not enjoy what you are reading, you are not going to put forth your best effort. Once these books are in my classroom, the students will get to begin their literature journey, opening many other academic improvement doors.
