The chess sets come out during our Friday strategy sessions, and students who used to rush through work now beg for \"one more game\" while practicing patience, planning, and gracious losing. The ant farm arrived just as we began our ecosystems unit, and watching students press gently against the glass to observe the colony's tunnels has made vocabulary like interaction, division of roles, and energy flow come alive in a way no worksheet ever could. Students will connect their observations to our Utah ecosystems standard: they'll diagram the colony's energy roles, compare ant cooperation to other species interactions, and present their findings in Spanish and English during our DLI share-out.
