One of their favorite projects involved creating haunted houses. We discussed the importance of writing that uses imagery to help pull the reader into the story. My students were very excited when they walked in from recess to see paints, brushes, and cups set out on their desks. Students were instructed to take the picture they had of their haunted house in their head, and create an illustration that would help readers see what they saw. After creating their illustrations, students had an opportunity to write a scary haunted house story surrounding elements of their illustrations. Their illustrations were the foundation for the descriptive vocabulary that was used all throughout their stories. My students had so much fun imagining and bringing their haunted houses to life. \r\nWe have also been using the art supplies to create illustrations supporting our Wit and Wisdom curriculum. The 3rd grade curriculum focuses quite heavily on illustrations and how they increase comprehension. Allowing my students to create their own illustrations to better understand stories has given them a unique look into the thought process experienced by book illustrators and authors. They have had opportunities to think more deeply about what elements of writing need to be highlighted and how to go about doing that.","fullyFundedDate":1755738944568,"projectUrl":"project/creative-supplies-for-creative-minds/9596818/","projectTitle":"Creative Supplies for Creative Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mixon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9655111"},{"teacherId":6937665,"projectId":9353364,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your contribution to our school's Wellness Room. They have been just manipulating the letters with the lowercase magnetic letters. I also grouped them for our Planet Kindergarten adventure when we chunk up the letters into groups so that I can differentiate which students need to work on what letter, names and sounds. They also absolutely love the sift and find letters and numbers activities. When we opened the were so intrigued with all the lowercase letter magnetic writers. I put them in our pink sand and they just love to run their fingers in the sand to find the letters, and then write them. It is so engaging and fun! The new resources have been instrumental in creating a space that not only supports learning but also fosters creativity and comfort.\r\n\r\nSpecific Classroom Project: The Reading Nook\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting projects we've embarked on with the new resources is the creation of a \"Reading Nook.\" This cozy corner features our new bookshelf, filled with a variety of engaging books, and is complemented by the colorful rug and cushions. This space has become a favorite among students, providing them with a comfortable area to dive into their favorite stories and explore new ones.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the Reading Nook, the class set of markers and pencils have been pivotal in our art-based learning projects. Students have been using these tools to illustrate scenes from the books they read, enhancing their comprehension and allowing them to express their interpretations creatively.\r\n\r\nStudents' Reactions\r\n\r\nThe excitement was palpable when the students first saw the materials. Their eyes lit up at the sight of the colorful lights and the inviting sit spots scattered around the room. The colorful lights have added an element of fun and wonder, making every lesson feel special. The students are thrilled with their new supplies, and the sit spots have been particularly effective in helping them focus during group activities and discussions.\r\n\r\nNext Steps in Our Classroom Journey\r\n\r\nAs we continue to integrate these resources into our daily activities, our next steps involve deepening student engagement through interactive projects. In the coming weeks, we plan to:\r\n\r\nDevelop a Creative Writing Workshop: Using the markers and pencils, students will write and illustrate their own short stories, which will be shared in a classroom \"Storytelling Festival.\"\r\n\r\nImplement a Book Club: With the new bookshelf, we aim to start a book club where students can choose a book to read collectively, discuss themes, and share insights with their peers.\r\n\r\nEnhance Collaborative Learning: The sit spots will be used to organize small group activities, encouraging collaboration and peer learning.\r\n\r\nThese resources have truly enriched our classroom environment, making it a more dynamic and welcoming space for learning. We are incredibly grateful for the support from our donors, and we look forward to sharing more updates as our projects unfold.\r\n\r\nThank you for being a part of our educational journey!","fullyFundedDate":1746786253317,"projectUrl":"project/school-essentials/9279502/","projectTitle":"School Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Araujo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8633996_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691733402714","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8633996"},{"teacherId":2490426,"projectId":9273554,"letterContent":"Thank you for giving my students the tools to just explore and build!
