Stamped (for Kids) will be used in our classroom to teach both Social Studies and Literacy state standards. Students will use this book to learn how to ask questions about a topic and find answers in a text; research for more information using reputable internet websites; use text evidence to back up a claim; participate in partner, small group, and whole-class conversations about a book; write summaries of a passage; write to answer questions about a chapter; create a historical timeline; identify problems and solutions in a text; find solutions to school and community-wide problems; and many other exciting learning possibilities.
With a whole-class set of this book, students will be engaging in a book club experience unique to any book club they have participated in before: having a class set of Stamped (for Kids) will allow students to participate in a whole-class book club study and discussion with their class community. Oftentimes, book clubs in school are limited to a handful of students because access to copies of a book is limited. Learning about racism, antiracism, problems, and solutions will help my students build a stronger class community, learn to confidently and knowledgeably communicate about tough topics, and find real-life application to the literacy skills they learn while reading this book.
