Your generosity has made a real difference in how my third graders read, think, and write.\r\n\r\nHere was our challenge: our curriculum is built around deep student interaction with a shared text. Students are asked to return to the book again and again — rereading passages, hunting for evidence, and citing details to support their writing. But the curriculum only provided one copy of Zathura for all twenty of my students. We passed that single book around, but my students simply couldn't have the individual, hands-on experience the curriculum was designed for. Close reading from across the room isn't really close reading at all.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, that bottleneck is gone. When the box arrived, my students cheered — and for the first time, every child held their own copy.\r\n\r\nWith a book in every set of hands, my students could pause, flip back, and search the text on their own. During writing time, I watched them independently track down the exact sentence that proved their point and reread pages to confirm details. They were doing the real work of readers: interrogating the text itself.\r\n\r\nAnd their writing? It got so much better. Their responses became more specific, more grounded in the text, and more confident. Students who used to write vague answers were suddenly quoting the book directly and explaining why their evidence mattered.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, owning a copy gave my students pride and ownership. During discussions, every student can respond at once, which means I can see who's got it and who needs more support in real time — no one slips through the cracks. Whiteboards also lower the stakes for mistakes: an erasable surface invites students to take risks, revise their thinking, and try again without fear.\r\n\r\nThe catch is that whiteboards only work when we can maintain them. Markers dry out quickly with daily use by 25+ students, erasers wear down, and boards become smudged and hard to read without proper cleaning supplies. For a Title 1 school, replacing these consumable items isn't always in the budget, and dry markers or stained boards can quietly shut down an activity that would otherwise run every day. Consistent access to fresh markers, erasers, and cleaning supplies means these tools stay reliable all year long.\r\n\r\nWith your support, my students will have the materials they need to stay actively engaged every single day — writing, sharing, problem-solving, and learning from one another on surfaces that are always ready to go. This has made a huge difference with my students. We are compartmentalized and my students have had to carry all there things from one class to another because they also share their desks. I had a few boys volunteer their recess time to help me build them. They were really proud of themselves when they saw the finished product. \r\nThe rest of the class were happy to see a place where they could keep their math supplies. The mailboxes have allowed them to keep everything related to math in their math class and only took what they needed to finish at home after school. They no longer had to haul around all their supplies. These trackers allow students to keep their place as they read long books, especially chapter books, when it can be easy to lose your spot when reading aloud or listening to someone else read. With these trackers, students move along the lines while the text appears in different colors, keeping them engaged and learning.\r\n\r\nThe next steps are to use the trackers in more than just reading.
