Eastmont Middle School is a National AVID Demonstration School and organization is one of our key values. Students develop skills to manage their time, workload, and materials. The Chair Pockets you provided give each student a place to store their materials at their desk while maintaining a clutter free workspace. This simple fix increases organization and as a result also increases the students capacity to focus on their lessons and relationships. I was able to purchase more Legos for our classroom as well. Legos promote creativity, collaboration, problem solving, and communication. These are all important skills in an AVID classroom but also in life. Our students take the NWEA MAP test three times per year. I hoped by incorporating more hands-on learning and manipulation that I would see growth in the Geometry domain even if we didn't interact with the geometry standards any more than usual. I did see that gain. I had an additional 11 students who scored proficient in the Geometry domain by the end of the year as compared to the beginning of the year.\r\n\r\nWe are also wrapping up our state testing currently. I still have a handful of students who haven't finished that testing, but I'm excited to report that I have 28 additional students who scored proficient or highly proficient on our state test compared to their own scores last year. I also cut the number of students in the lowest scoring band (Below Proficient) from 43 students last year to only 23 students this year.\r\n\r\nI couldn't be prouder of what we were able to accomplish this year with the aid of these materials. We used our hands and bodies so much more frequently to model the conceptual learning and it contributed positively to what their brains were able to think as a result. Thank you deeply for helping to fund my project and contributing to the enormous success.
