As a new teacher, a classroom library will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom environment which I strive to create. All students will be able to check out classroom library books. This will help to support their reading adventures while distance-learning. This is especially important during Covid-19, as distance learning can greatly disrupt the availability of high-quality reading materials for many students. Every book that is placed in my classroom library has been chosen with my students in mind. They have either expressed an interest in having the book titles available in our classroom, or I have made book selections based on student interest, ability, and literacy goals. Students will have a variety of books to choose from; all of them will be available to check out, take home, read, and enjoy. Student choice is one of the best ways I know of to increase student reading abilities and decrease student reading stress.
