They are the experts of themselves. \r\n\r\nMy goal is to continue to build a welcoming and safe space for all students. Space where they can come to talk or de-compress. Sometimes the demands between life and school can feel overwhelming, but it is helpful for them to know there is a place they can go to feel comforted and accepted. A place where they can get their needs met, whether it be to fix their hair, grab a snack, or take a brain break. The books that were so kindly donated to us will help our students as they explore life and discover who they are. \r\n\r\nI have started a mini library in my office where students can \"check out\" books and then return them. One afternoon after school I went home and cried about this while praying to God. I received an answer to write for a Donor Choose grant for Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS) for $277. The next morning when I arrived at school I saw that the grant proposal was filled by Google Mental Health. I was so excited that my idea was going to come to fruition. Then in early November I had the opportunity to have Key Club members put together twenty PBIS reward bags with this funding, which were distributed to some 9th grade teachers to use to promote positive language and actions in their classrooms and hallway as they choose. \r\n Then the first week of February Donors Choose was offering that donations will be doubled, motivating me to write for a second grant to continue to promote PBIS at WAHS for $348. This grant was also fulfilled by YOU!!! That week I also found out that I had received the Allentown School District Teacher Innovation grant for $1,194 for additional PBIS materials. For a grand total of $1,819.00 in grant money for PBIS at WAHS for the 2024-2025 school year. With this money, I was able to purchase a Cricut machine and materials for the WAHS Culture & Climate Committee, which is being used to create positive quotes for the stairwells of the four buildings of the high school. Plus, the committee can use the Cricut machine to create lots of other items that can be given to students and staff. In February 2025, I distributed 54 PBIS bags to staff from the ASD grant. Next on March 6th, the Key Club members volunteered to put together 63 PBIS reward bags for additional teachers and staff. Therefore, 134 staff members received a rewards bag to use at their pleasure, which included teachers, administrators, secretaries, guidance counselors, social workers, teacher aids, and the nurse and 21 staff members received a small rewards bag. This allows almost every adult in the school to promote positivity. I did not have enough materials to make a PBIS rewards bag for every staff member of WAHS, but I focused on the 9th grade staff, Special Education teachers, Alternative Education staff and the Linden & Annex buildings staff.\r\n Many of the teachers and staff members were excited, surprised and thankful for the reward materials. The students were surprised to see the variety of rewards to choose from, which made them excited and happy. In addition, after all the reward bags were distributed, I sent all staff members an online survey to get their feedback on their knowledge and implementation of PBIS. Overall, I am elated to receive the grant money to make this vision a reality.","fullyFundedDate":1738252680299,"projectUrl":"project/continuing-to-promote-pbis-at-william-al/9058466/","projectTitle":"Continuing to Promote PBIS at William Allen H.S.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tasker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/405862"},{"teacherId":9637086,"projectId":8705239,"letterContent":"Mental health is becoming a more important topic every day. The books are a great tool for independent use, group use, or as a conversation between myself and a student. \r\nThe food items help created a more relaxed state. Sometimes, it is easier to talk when having a snack. It can be easier to calm down when you can drink some water. Mostly, it is easier to focus when you are not hungry. Students are looking for food for many reasons. Being able to provide them with the food will help them perform better in the classroom and life. \r\nThe students were excited and appreciative of the support. It is validating and shows them that there are good, caring, and helpful people in the world. It helps them feel important and significant to the world. \r\nThese items will continue to be used to support our students in a variety of ways.
