Sensory toys complement our activities. They help students focus on functional academic activities, provide opportunities for relaxation and stimulation, and for fine and gross motor growth. Sensory toys are excellent for increasing interaction between regular and special education students. When regular education students come into the classroom, it helps if they have a concrete set of activities that are easy for our students to participate in. They also help to increase focus and attention and facilitate independence and self-advocacy. When our kids have a variety of activities on their level to choose from, they are better able to understand their own needs! They get to know what they like and dislike and are better able to make recreation and relaxation choices in the future. It will help them understand their own bodies and learn which activities are fun, which activities are relaxing, and which activities help them to focus.
