Being a 9th grade English teacher, it is sometimes difficult to get teenagers excited about reading. One thing that seems to help motivate students is the option of a more comfortable seat for reading. I have offered my "teacher" chair in the past and it has served as a great tool to encourage focus and effort on reading assignments. This project would give my students the opportunity to have several options for seating within the classroom, which will encourage them to get comfortable and "cozy up" with a good book. It is something that I have explained to them that I do at home. I get my thick socks, my blanket, my hot chocolate (which is already available in the classroom), and my novel to cozy up and read. I would love to create this space for students to become more comfortable with and while reading, which will hopefully translate into enjoying it throughout their lives.
