My classroom is a self-contained class of students with multiple disabilities. They have lots of challenges, from physical to cognitive but they also bring such joy with them to the classroom and they all love learning. We do a lot of project-based, hands-on learning and try to focus a lot on independence and setting high but attainable goals every year. They enjoy utilizing different objects that make noise and some of them require teethers and oral stimulation for their sensory needs. We utilize materials not only for small group instruction, but these materials will enable students to use them independently. The items will provide students with tactile and sensory stimulation. With the new books the students can choose which book interests them and the books will allow the students to read independently at their instructional level. The musical instruments will enable the students to practice playing their individual ability level.
