My students enjoyed the seating arrangement during their response-to-intervention time, when we would all sit around the kidney-shaped table while I worked with them on improving their reading and writing. When the students saw that total strangers had cared enough about them to donate money to a project in which they would be more comfortable, they were overwhelmed with gratitude. I did not inform the students about setting up the DonorsChoose project because many of them aren't funded, and I didn't want to raise their hopes unnecessarily. So, when the students saw all of these huge boxes in my room, they were so excited to see them. It was like Christmas morning for them as they opened up those boxes and found all the colorful stools that we would be able to use in the different centers of the room. I wish I had taken pictures of that morning, but like most teaching moments that move so fast, and I was enjoying living the moment, I didn't think about taking pictures until it was over. Again, I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for the generosity you showed to our students.","fullyFundedDate":1526492751718,"projectUrl":"project/we-like-to-move-it-move-it/3267599/","projectTitle":"We Like to Move It, Move It!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Villarreal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1984930"},{"teacherId":4810915,"projectId":9299311,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for fully funding our Kindness Campaign project! Because of your generosity, every one of our K–5 students is beginning the year learning how to lead with kindness, respect, and empathy. The resources you provided have given us the tools to create something tangible and lasting for our school community.\r\n\r\nHow we're using the resources:\r\nWe launched our campaign with school-wide kindness lessons, and students are using the new supplies to build a Kindness Pledge Wall. Each child has written their name and a personal kindness commitment—like saying hello in the morning, including someone who feels left out, or remembering to say please and thank you. Seeing their pledges displayed has helped them take ownership of kindness in a way that feels exciting and real.\r\n\r\nA special classroom moment:\r\nOne of the most powerful moments happened when a group of fourth graders noticed a classmate sitting alone at recess. They remembered their pledge, walked over, and invited him to join their game. Later, they pointed to the pledge wall and said, \"We kept our promise!\" Moments like this remind me that your donation is shaping not just lessons, but real daily choices.\r\n\r\nStudent reactions:\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were so excited—they immediately started brainstorming ways to decorate the pledge wall and asked if they could \"sign their promise\" right away. Many of them proudly showed their families what they had signed during pickup, which made the wall even more meaningful.\r\n\r\nNext steps:\r\nIn December, we'll be rolling out a Kindness Countdown, where each day brings a new kindness challenge. Later in the year, we'll track kindness acts across classrooms, celebrate student leaders in kindness, and expand the pledge wall as new ideas grow. The supplies you funded will keep supporting these activities all year long.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping us build not just a campaign, but a climate of kindness that will ripple through our entire school. Thank you, Allstate Foundation, for believing in our students and giving them the opportunity to change their school, one kind act at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1747953697896,"projectUrl":"project/kindness-counts-students-taking-action/9299311/","projectTitle":"Kindness Counts: Students Taking Action for Good","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Black","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4810915_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723683586257","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4810915"},{"teacherId":4810915,"projectId":9241884,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students now have access to meaningful social-emotional learning (SEL) resources that bring stories to life in our classroom lessons. Stories are powerful teachers—when my students see characters struggle, problem-solve, or show kindness, they're able to connect those lessons to their own lives in ways that are real and lasting.\r\n\r\nWith these new materials, I've been able to introduce skills such as empathy, teamwork, managing big feelings, and making positive choices. Reading in my classroom doesn't just mean flipping pages—it looks like gathering together, listening intently, and then having brave conversations about what we would do if we were in the character's shoes. These moments spark honest dialogue, laughter, and even \"aha!\" moments when students realize they are not alone in their challenges.\r\n\r\nA few students have especially come alive during these lessons. One quieter student who rarely raised his hand now eagerly shares connections between the book characters and his own friendships. Another student told me, \"I like these stories because they make me feel calm and help me know what to do.\" These small but powerful shifts remind me that students learn best when they feel both engaged and supported.\r\n\r\nYour gift has allowed me to create lessons that meet the head and the heart. Thank you for investing in my students' social-emotional growth and for giving them tools they'll carry far beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746786214212,"projectUrl":"project/turning-pages-building-character/9241884/","projectTitle":"Turning Pages, Building Character","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Black","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4810915_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723683586257","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4810915"},{"teacherId":9370505,"projectId":8036856,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for choosing to support my classroom project!
