Social and emotional learning (SEL) is a set of skills, knowledge, and behaviors involved in understanding and managing emotions, setting positive goals, feeling empathy for others, engaging in positive relationships, and solving problems effectively. Our students are in dire need of these skills, especially after dealing with the stress and trauma of the past year and a half. This project will help to bridge the gap of learning loss from the pandemic by combining math and literacy centers with SEL to give students the tools they need to effectively manage emotions and anxiety. The learning centers and books will help my students to cover standards RL.K.1-3-Students will ask and answer questions about key details in text, retell familiar stories and identify characters, settings, and major events in the story. These materials will also help students to practice RF.K.1.A-D-Follow words from left to right, understand that words are separated by spaces in print, and recognize and name upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.
