Our students will use these books to continue their learning of how various populations dealt with adversity historically. They begin the year with a study of African Americans in the Underground Railroad. They continue with the struggle of Asian families entering the western United States in the early 1900s. The school year culminates with a study of Esperanza Rising. After learning about other populations, our students are ready to see their struggles reflected through Esperanza's eyes, while reading their very own paper copy! They recognize their own families, their own history and through Esperanza see the hope that rises within us all!
