Some immediately pointed out the games they recognized from home, others were excited to see activities they'd never tried before. For many of them, having access to fresh, high‑quality items felt like a real celebration of their hard work and it motivated them to keep pushing themselves throughout the semester.\r\n\r\nNow that these resources are part of our achievement system, the next step is helping students use them to build stronger social skills, teamwork, and problem‑solving. The whimsical design of the furniture immediately lowered the barrier for some of my more reluctant readers, turning a standard school activity into an imaginative adventure.\r\n\r\nNow that Reading Week has concluded, the stumps and leaves have found a permanent home in our library's woodland scene. When the materials arrived and we set it up with the soft rug, pillows, calming lights, and books, the students' eyes immediately lit up. They were so excited to explore the space and asked thoughtful questions about how they could use it. We talked together about how the calming corner is a place for taking deep breaths, reading quietly, and helping our minds and bodies feel ready to learn. Since then, students have been using it to reset their emotions and refocus. One special moment happened during a reading block when a student who was feeling overwhelmed asked to spend a few minutes in the calming corner. They chose a book about emotions, sat with a pillow, and after a short break were able to return to the lesson calm and ready to participate again.\r\n\r\nAs we continue building social-emotional skills in our classroom, the calming corner will remain an important part of our daily routine. Because of your donations of both the classroom telescope and the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential Kits, our students are experiencing STEM learning in ways that are hands-on, meaningful, and deeply inspiring.\r\n\r\nWith the telescope, students are able to look beyond their textbooks and observe the Moon, planets, and stars firsthand. These real-world experiences spark curiosity and wonder while helping students connect scientific concepts to the world around them. Observing the night sky encourages students to ask questions, think critically, and see themselves as explorers of the universe.\r\n\r\nAt the same time, the LEGO SPIKE Essential Kits bring that same spirit of discovery into the classroom through building and coding. Students design, construct, and program their own creations using motors and sensors, developing foundational skills in engineering, robotics, and computer science. Through these collaborative challenges, they learn to problem-solve, persevere, and work together—building both academic knowledge and confidence.\r\n\r\nTogether, these resources create a powerful balance between exploration and creation.
