Currently, I am teaching from home to 17 students that, like me, are learning to navigate the platforms of distance education. For many of my students, using a laptop to participate in 100% online activities has proven to be a challenge because we are completely dependent on our devices working properly. Some things, like the internet and connection speed, can be out of our control, but having the right technology in our hands can make the difference between a successful, productive day of learning and a frustrating one. Having an updated device would make my students’ virtual educational experience much richer by allowing content to be presented flawlessly. Students would be able to experience the full benefits of all of the virtual learning applications and programs that are currently limited due to my slow computer. In a typical classroom, students would have the opportunity to have material presented in several formats to meet each child’s needs. Having updated technology would allow me to do just that, to bring these rich experiences to them, despite the school closures, in a multitude of formats. For example, I can share literature using digital audiobooks, enhance math lessons with virtual manipulatives, and present fine, standards based instructional content in science and social studies fields without interruption. I hope that even though we are not together physically, we can make the best of this situation and continue to expand our love of learning. Thank you for your consideration.
