They worked in teams to create strong, stable structures using different truss patterns like triangles for support. One special moment was when a group successfully tested their bridge and it held more weight than they expected—students cheered and immediately started discussing how their design made it stronger. The students were very excited and curious when they saw the materials. Many of them couldn't wait to start building and began sharing ideas with their teammates right away. The hands-on materials made the project feel real and fun, and even students who are usually quiet became more engaged and involved. Next, students will improve and redesign their bridges based on testing results. They will measure how much weight their bridges can hold and analyze which designs are the strongest and why. Finally, they will present their projects, explaining their design choices and what they learned about structure, stability, and problem-solving. Thank you, donors, for these materials. It is hard for them to dream about being doctors or engineers when they do not even have the basics, so seeing these materials made them feel like their goals are actually possible. They are not just using these for notes, they are using them to build a path to a better future.\r\n\r\nWe are already using the colored pencils to color code our graphs so the math is easier to see. The dry erase markers are great because students can practice on the boards and erase their mistakes without feeling bad. We are using the graph paper to draw out different types of curves and see how they work in the real world. This technology has given students a powerful, hands-on way to explore mathematical concepts that were once abstract or intimidating.\r\n\r\nFor many donors who may not see how this technology is used in schools, these calculators go far beyond simple computation. They allow students to visualize math in real time. For example, when learning about quadratic functions, students can graph equations instantly and see how changes in coefficients affect the shape and position of the parabola. This immediate feedback helps deepen their understanding and builds confidence in their problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting aspects for students has been learning how to navigate the calculator efficiently. I taught them how to use the keys specifically for graphing quadratic functions, which made them feel more independent and capable. They were especially engaged when they realized they could check their own work using Boolean logic. This skill allows them to test answer choices during assessments and verify which solution is correct, turning the calculator into a tool for reasoning rather than just calculation.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled with math have especially warmed up to this technology. These students often felt unsure of their answers, but now they can use the calculator to confirm their thinking. This has reduced anxiety and encouraged them to participate more actively in class. I've seen students who were once hesitant become more willing to try, explore, and even help their peers.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project has not only provided students with access to valuable technology but has also empowered them to take ownership of their learning. Thank you for making this possible and for helping build both skills and confidence in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1768673760059,"projectUrl":"project/calculating-confidence-equipping-studen/10025308/","projectTitle":"Calculating Confidence: Equipping Students with TI-84s","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. SUGUE","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9925188_orig.jpg?crop=360,360,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739656382340","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9925188"},{"teacherId":8169488,"projectId":10044275,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support of our classroom. It's a small gesture with a powerful effect students are more present, more engaged, and more willing to participate.\r\n\r\nBeyond that, the reading and reflection space we've created has become a true haven within the classroom.
