With our new equipment, the learning has shifted from theoretical to hands-on. Students aren't just reading about focal lengths or shutter speeds; they are adjusting settings in real-time to capture a game-winning shot or a candid moment in the hallway. \r\n\r\nThe \"wow\" factor for the students was, quite simply, access. Previously, the entire staff had to share a single camera, which created a \"waiting list\" for creativity. The most exciting moment was seeing their faces when they realized we had multiple kits. They no longer felt like students playing with a hobby; they felt like a professional press team. Having their own gear at an event gave them a sense of authority and pride that translated directly into the quality of their work.\r\n\r\nWhile the whole class benefited, we saw a remarkable shift in our introverted students. For some who find traditional social interaction daunting, the camera became a bridge. Having a camera in hand gave these students a 'purpose' at social events. We watched them transform from quiet observers into active participants, confidently navigating crowds to get the perfect shot. It gave them a voice without them having to say a word.\r\n\r\nWe officially submitted our yearbook at the end of March—a feat that would not have been possible without this equipment. You didn't just buy us cameras; you bought us the ability to document our school's history with clarity and pride.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our vision!","fullyFundedDate":1768009356790,"projectUrl":"project/picture-this-empowering-yearbook-studen/9987696/","projectTitle":"Picture This: Empowering Yearbook Students with Cameras","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Whittemore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4603654_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1502127957261","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/swhittemore"},{"teacherId":9845230,"projectId":9995782,"letterContent":"Thank you for supplying my students with these glazing materials. They had fun testing out the five new glazing techniques I presented to them. After testing out the five techniques the students then chose which one they wanted to apply to their drape pot projects. The underglazes that donors provided were the most helpful in these techniques. Working with underglazes also proved a new concept to students in regards to coloring a piece of clay. \r\n\r\nThe regular glazes are always appreciated also. In past school years our ceramics department was not able to afford glazes. This meant that student's projects went unglazed and therefore unfinished. I think this contributed to a lack of motivation amongst ceramics students. Now that students have the ability to not only add color to their art work but also make their art into functional pieces, they feel more proud of what they are doing. \r\n\r\nAs for the kiln shelf supports, I appreciate them greatly. During a recent lesson on atomic structure, students used the atomic models to physically build atoms, identifying protons, neutrons, and electrons. This allowed them to better understand how atoms are organized instead of just memorizing diagrams. In another lesson, students worked with simple electric circuit diagrams to design and simulate circuits, helping them see how electricity flows and how components connect. One memorable moment was when a group successfully \"troubleshot\" their own circuit design on paper, excitedly realizing why a connection wasn't complete.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials were first introduced, students were immediately curious and enthusiastic. The atomic models especially captured their attention—they were eager to assemble them and explore different elements. Many students who previously struggled with these concepts showed increased confidence, and the classroom buzzed with questions, discussions, and discoveries. The circuit diagrams also sparked interest, with students excitedly predicting how electricity would flow and testing their ideas.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will be applying what they've learned in a hands-on project where they design their own atoms and create simple circuit plans to solve real-world problems—like lighting a small model \"room\" or explaining how energy moves in everyday devices. They will present their ideas, explain their reasoning, and reflect on their learning process, deepening both their scientific understanding and communication skills.\r\n\r\nYour support has made it possible for students to experience science in a real, meaningful way.
