Research shows that students learn better in small group settings. One of the best ways to do this is by doing centers in the classroom. Traditionally centers are done in elementary classrooms but I would like to bring centers to middle school. I would like to provide my students with different ways of learning grammar, figurative language, and reading comprehension by providing them with manipulatives and games that focus on ELA. By doing this it will get students excited about learning material that isn't usually thought of as exciting. It will also provide students with the comfortable small group setting where they can learn from, and teach, their peers. With the materials I will get from this projects I would like to set up centers in my seventh grade ELA classroom. This would consist of small group of about 5 kids working on something together for about 10-15 minutes at a time. They would then rotate to work on a different skill. Students would utilize materials such as the Bingo games to help improve their grammar skills. They workbooks I have picked out are also full of different reusables that students can work on to improve anything from reading comprehension through identifying and using literary elements. Lastly, with the whiteboards they would practice their writing skills by responding to curriculum related prompts. Thank you for any donations!
