Being able to practice with actual materials, rather than only talking about a skill, gives them more opportunities to build confidence and independence.\r\nOur next step is to continue incorporating these resources into our vocational and independent-living instruction. My dual credit students took underwater photos that explored how perception, value, and appearances can be deceiving. They had to stage, a non-traditional, deeply personal treasure underwater and use the water to fill the eye of the viewer. During lunch, school social workers hosted resource tables where students could explore and select items that best supported their individual coping needs. Students were able to choose a fidget, stickers, deep-breathing tracing cards, mints, tea, and motivational quotes.\r\n\r\nThe donations had a positive impact on student engagement and wellness. Students were able to try different types of fidgets and identify which ones were most helpful before taking one with them for continued use. Many students expressed gratitude and appreciation for the event and the resources provided. Motivational bracelets and stickers were especially popular, while mints and other sensory items provided simple, immediate coping strategies students could use throughout the school day.
