Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our students now have access to 30 micro:bit cases, LEGO materials, and smiley face stickers that have already made learning more engaging, interactive, and meaningful for nearly 800 students. These resources have transformed the way students participate in STEM and classroom activities by giving them opportunities to explore creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and technology in hands-on ways that truly inspire excitement for learning.\r\n\r\nThe micro:bit cases have been especially valuable because they allow students to safely use and protect the technology tools needed during coding and STEM lessons. Students were excited to work with the micro:bits and quickly became more confident experimenting with coding concepts, testing ideas, and troubleshooting challenges independently and in groups. Having proper cases for the devices helped students stay organized and responsible while also extending the life of the materials so they can continue benefiting future classes. Many students who were previously hesitant about coding became more engaged once they had opportunities to physically interact with the devices and see their ideas come to life through hands-on activities.\r\n\r\nThe LEGO materials also had a tremendous impact on student learning. These resources encouraged students to think critically, collaborate with classmates, and develop engineering and design skills while building creative solutions to classroom challenges. Students worked together to plan, test, redesign, and improve their projects, which strengthened their communication and teamwork abilities. The excitement in the classroom was truly inspiring as students shared ideas, celebrated successes, and learned from mistakes. The LEGO activities created an environment where students felt comfortable taking academic risks, using their imagination, and exploring new concepts in a fun and supportive way.\r\n\r\nEven the smiley face stickers played an important role in supporting our classroom culture. Small rewards and positive encouragement can make a huge difference for students, especially when recognizing effort, perseverance, and growth. The stickers helped motivate students and created moments of joy and celebration throughout the school day. Students were proud to receive recognition for their hard work, kindness, creativity, and determination. These simple gestures helped build confidence and encouraged students to continue trying their best.\r\n\r\nBecause of the materials provided through this project, I was able to create richer and more meaningful learning opportunities that reached a large number of students across multiple classes and grade levels. The resources allowed me to incorporate more interactive STEM lessons, collaborative problem-solving activities, and creative learning experiences into my teaching. Students were more engaged, more willing to participate, and more excited about learning than ever before. The project also helped foster important 21st-century skills such as communication, critical thinking, resilience, and innovation that students will continue to use far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project reminded our students that there are people who genuinely care about their education and future. Your generosity showed students that their learning matters and that others believe in their potential to succeed. That message alone has a lasting impact that extends far beyond the materials themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1778254017777,"projectUrl":"project/building-bright-minds-through-hands-on-s/10237354/","projectTitle":"Building Bright Minds Through Hands-On STEAM","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCartin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4605358"},{"teacherId":7279111,"projectId":10029208,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the materials to assist my students in language acquisition. Without intentional practice and engaging tools, they can become frustrated with tasks that require hand strength, coordination, and control. This project provides hands-on, developmentally appropriate materials that allow children to build these skills through purposeful play—making learning both meaningful and fun.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this project has already been seen daily in the classroom. Students are becoming more confident writers, more independent learners, and more engaged participants in classroom activities. Now, the atmosphere in our classroom has completely shifted:\r\n\r\nThe Art Carts: These have been a total game-changer for our painting units. Instead of students crowding around a single sink or station, I can now wheel organized palettes, water cups, and brushes directly to their tables. This maximizes our actual \"making\" time and minimizes the chaotic cleanup.\r\n\r\nThe Paper Shelves: Construction paper is the backbone of elementary art. Having dedicated, flat shelving means our paper stays crisp, unbent, and—most importantly—sorted by color. The students love being able to see the full \"rainbow\" of choices available to them.\r\n\r\nSmall Material Storage: The new shelves for our \"bits and bobs\" (beads, buttons, clay tools) have given every item a home. When a student has a specific vision, they now know exactly where to find the tools they need to bring it to life.\r\n\r\nBeyond Just \"Organization\"\r\nWhile it might seem like we just bought furniture, you actually gifted us autonomy. To say that your support has made a difference would be an understatement; the impact has been truly transformative, fundamentally changing the daily educational experience for both my students and myself.\r\nWhen I first submitted this project, it was born out of a specific need to bridge a gap in our classroom resources. In today's educational climate, teachers often find themselves trying to innovate with limited tools. Your platform does more than just facilitate funding; it provides a sense of validation and community. Knowing that there is a dedicated network of supporters who believe in the potential of my students as much as I do is an incredibly powerful motivator.\r\nSince the arrival of the new materials, the atmosphere in our classroom has shifted noticeably. We have seen a surge in student engagement that has been nothing short of inspiring. For example, the new resources have allowed for more hands-on, interactive lessons that cater to various learning styles. Students who previously struggled to stay focused or felt disconnected from the curriculum are now the first to volunteer and the most eager to participate. They feel seen and valued, recognizing that people they have never met invested in their future. This boost in morale is an intangible but vital component of academic success.\r\nThe practical impact is equally significant. With these tools, I have been able to implement more sophisticated lesson plans that were previously out of reach. We are exploring concepts with a depth and clarity that simply wasn't possible before. This hasn't just improved test scores or completion rates; it has fostered a genuine curiosity and a love for learning. You haven't just provided \"things\"—you have provided opportunities for discovery, critical thinking, and growth.\r\nFurthermore, your endorsement has a ripple effect. It demonstrates to our school community that our goals are worthy of investment. It inspires my colleagues and gives my students a tangible example of the power of philanthropy and collective action. You are helping to raise a generation that understands the importance of supporting one another and giving back.\r\nPlease share our sincerest thanks with the donors who made this possible. Their generosity is the engine of our classroom's progress, and your platform is the vital bridge that connects their kindness to our need. We are so proud to be part of the DonorsChoose family, and we are committed to making the most of every resource provided.\r\nThank you for your tireless work, your belief in the importance of public education, and for being such a steadfast champion for teachers and students everywhere. One special moment that stood out was during our morning writing activity. Students gathered on the new classroom rug while I used the easel to model how to write a complete sentence. With their new crayons and pencils in hand, they eagerly wrote and illustrated their own stories. It created a collaborative and engaging environment where students felt excited to share their ideas.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement.
