As a public school with a very diverse student population, we don't always have the funding or resources to fully support the needs of every student in the arts. So when we received donated supplies—things like strings, bows, rosin, tuners, shoulder rests, and basic maintenance items—it was a game changer.\r\n\r\nBefore the donation, a lot of our instruments were being held together with tape and hope. Students were sharing supplies, and in some cases, just doing without. If someone broke a string or lost a shoulder rest, it might be weeks before we could replace it—if at all. This affected not only the way students played, but how they felt about being in orchestra. It's hard to stay motivated when your equipment is falling apart.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the donation, there's been a noticeable shift. Students now have what they need to actually play—comfortably and confidently. Our sound as an ensemble has improved, but more importantly, student engagement has gone up. They take more pride in their instruments, they're showing up to class more focused, and they're practicing more at home. Just knowing that they have what they need makes a difference in how seriously they take it.\r\n\r\nI also want to point out something that's harder to measure but incredibly important: how this made students feel. For a lot of my kids, this was the first time they'd been in a space where someone outside their family believed in them enough to give them tools to succeed. That kind of support matters. It tells them they're worth investing in. That their music matters. And for a middle schooler, especially one going through tough times, that can be everything.\r\n\r\nWe've also been able to take part in more performances and events because our instruments are in better shape. Our kids got to perform in front of the school and for the community, and you could just see how proud they were—standing tall, playing music they worked hard on, knowing they were equipped and prepared.\r\n\r\nSo to whoever made this donation possible: thank you. You didn't just send us supplies—you gave us the ability to keep music alive and thriving in our school. You helped students feel seen, supported, and capable. And that impact will last far beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1720635210801,"projectUrl":"project/becker-orchestra-restock/8476410/","projectTitle":"Becker Orchestra restock","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Dominguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9580350_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754379731058","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9580350"},{"teacherId":9817394,"projectId":8905711,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous donation of calculators and pencils to my middle school math classroom. Your support has made a real difference in my students' learning experience.\r\n\r\nMany of my students don't have access to calculators at home, so having them in the classroom allows them to engage with math in a more meaningful way. The technology helps them check their work, explore more advanced problem-solving strategies, and build confidence as they tackle more difficult equations.\r\n\r\nMany of my students are thrilled to use the calculators as a tool rather than seeing math as an intimidating challenge. They actually enjoy computing numbers! For some students who previously struggled, the calculators have provided a boost in confidence, helping them participate more actively in class.\r\n\r\nI've especially noticed a few students who started the year with an apprehensive mindset about math start to engage more because they now feel equipped to keep up with their peers. One student, in particular, used to be discouraged by long calculations, but now, with the calculator, they're my #1 participator! It's incredible to see the shift in attitude!\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity.
